Lipstick is touted to be one of the most imperative vanity requirements for women from generations. The need for adding color to lips is no longer a makeup essential, but a routine feel-good factor. Liquid lipsticks were invented to tube in a perfect combination of pigments of a lipstick with the sheen of a gloss. Matte liquid lipsticks were created to minus the gloss attributed to the normal liquid lipsticks. The formula was generated to control the slick feeling on the lips on the application of the gloss. This decade has been termed to be the “era of matte liquid lipsticks” and not one brand has stayed back from stepping into this bandwagon.
MUA Makeup Academy is a cruelty-free makeup brand, which is involved in formulating and producing pocket-friendly cosmetics. The MUA Luxe is a separate collection of luxurious cosmetics like eyeshadows, liquid lipsticks and contour kits, designed by combining high quality with style. In this review, I would be detailing the performance of two MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquers in the shades; “Aflush” and “Funk”.
Get the ultimate velvet-matte pout with this richly pigmented, silky smooth lip lacquer. The quick-dry formula glides on effortlessly to leave a gorgeous matte finish, that is smudge proof & long-lasting. Dark or pale?
My Experience with MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer Aflush and Funk:
To begin with, the packaging design is very similar to Makeup Revolution Salvation Velvet Lip Lacquer, but the overall appearance of the golden print in black does amp up the appeal. The product itself comes packaged in a frosted plastic tube with a black top which has the doe-foot sponge applicator. The product even without the outer cover appears luxurious, attributable to the MUA Luxe London print on the bottle cap as well. But, now all the chicness remains only limited to the packaging, as the product in itself did not perform at all.
The consistency of the lip lacquer is very sticky and when applied on naked lips, the outcome is patchy. The first coat though appears opaque, on the application of multiple coats, the product just sits as a thick transferrable layer on the lips. The formula is extremely drying, as within a few minutes, all the cracks on the lips get accentuated. I did try after exfoliating the lips well and application of a lip balm, the patchy application continued. The color is long-lasting, but the product is in no way a smudge-proof formula as claimed. In order to make the product usable in some form, I spread the product with my fingers evenly and top it up with my lip balm to prevent cracking.
The first shade “Aflush” is a neon barbie pink color, which I am pretty sure is nowhere close to an everyday shade. This is more of a funky color for costume parties may be. I am still not sure to comment on which Indian skin tone can carry this like a pro, but it completely washed off my wheatish complexion. This extremely drying matte lipper, however, is true to its claim of being completely matte with zero sheen. I have added a picture of this lipper on my lips post 4 hours of application with a lip balm.
The second shade “Funk” is a beautiful mauve pink with a neon undertone suitable for light to medium Indian skin tone. An easy day wear color, however, has the same issues pertaining to the patchy application and extremely dehydrating feel.
The lip lacquer does come off easily with a simple wet tissue and does not require many efforts. Priced at Rs 700/- for 6mL of the product, it definitely is a pricey product considering its average performance.

Cons of MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer Aflush and Funk:
