What’s a Bronzer?

A bronzer as the dictionary defines it as a “cosmetic ointment used to give the skin a tanned look.” Now, those of us essentially new to bronzers benefit to know that’s its almost like a compact powder, cream, spray to obtain and add some color to the skin essentially loved by tan lovers. For us Indians, we can get sufficient tan from sun all year round, but here in England, the bronzers are a big fashion statement. Every where I went shopping, I saw girls picking up bronzers and the way they wear it in the hollow of the cheek or in a 3-shape on the side of the cheek or as a blusher, it looks absolutely stunning! They would also add some blush to the cheeks and some highlight on the high area of the cheek under the eyes and the look is complete. I did not spot a single lady without some blush or bronzer whereas bronzers are very popular with the younger women.

For us Indians with naturally beautifully bronzed complexions with sun hiting the cheeks almost all the year round, I would say use a bronzer as a contour or a blush to add definition to the face and not as an all over powder. Use a bronzer in the hollow of the cheeks and under the jaw and little goes a long way. I am totally in love with bronzers here in England as they add such a beautiful color and depth to the cheeks. Whatever be the case, do have a bronzer in your makeup collection as you would have a foundation pressed powder or blush. Use a bronzer sparingly just to contour on a well done base of foundation.

About MUA:

Makeup Academy is a brand compared to ELF in the US where most of the stuff is 1 pound or so with a whole lot to chose from, now just as is the case for ELF, some products can be a hit and some others a miss, and is great for trial. I am new to bronzers and I picked up some bronzers here, all under 5 pounds. Now, I hadn’t heard of MUA until I went to Superdrug (that’s the only place I found the brand). MUA had two shades of bronzers I believe and I got the shade 1. I would have preferred to go for a matte one, but 1 pound did not hurt.

About the Shade 1 Bronzer from MUA:

bronzer

Okay, let me declare here that this is a shimmer bronzer and not a matte one, so can be a put-off because of all the gold, something of a cross between shimmer and glitter. This gives the bronzer a coarse appearance in the pan. The packaging itself is nothing great with just plain transparent square container, but at the price of a pound(roughly 75 rupees) for a whopping 5.7 grams cannot be ignored.

with flash

The texture is a little coarse and it has golden shimmer, so more than adding color to the cheeks, it adds shimmer and makes it look horrible for day wear, especially in India.

swatch

It is smooth to touch, but not as smooth and it so reminds me of ELF pressed powder, which does have a dry, coarse, gritty texture. The shade is nice to add contour (that’s how I use it ), but I can’t say anything about breakouts and the ingredient list. It is made in the PRC and developed in the UK and the ingredient list is also mentioned thankfully.

Last Word:
It is not a great bronzer, but good for first timers. It is a little gritty and coarse and has golden shimmer with just an average packaging. The price and the quantity is good definitely. MUA on the other hand has superb duochrome and metallic and pearl eyeshadows which I did pick up 😛 They do have great blushes and so I can safely say that the bronzers are not one of the best that MUA offers. By the way, Superdrug here in the UK is a heaven for makup lovers like me :jiggy:

I’m sooo happy right noww!! I just discovered a new way of wearing a lippy as a stain/tint! :happydance: :happydance:

      1. You see…I have the Maybelline Warm Me Up wala lippy na? So I wore it yesterday, but it trned out to be more of a “cool me down” lippy as I got tanned horribly the day before. So I was (sulkily) putting it on and then I got distracted and ended up slopping gloss all over my lips instead of just the centre. I got pissed of and bit/kissed a tissue paper twice…To my utter surprise,it turned into the most perfect mlbb look for me and it actually lasted 6 hours with a meal! :woot: :woot: Which, might I add, is much better than the stupid 4 1/2 hours I got when I used only the lippy as a tint.
And the best part: I get to use my ugly Rs.20 wala clear gloss in a way that has gotten me sooo many compliments (from my friends). O:) O:)

  3. nice review Neha…I saw Makeup Academy counter day before yesterday..but somehow couldn’t make my mind to buy anything.. 😛 ..the collection was very limited….
