MUA Matte Perfect Loose Translucent Powder – Review

MUA Matte Perfect Loose Translucent Powder

Dear Beauties,

I know a lot of you out there want to try MUA products for their good quality and cheap affordable pricing, so I thought let me review the ones I have currently and have been using since last couple of weeks. I am oily-skinned  and I love products which give matte effect, in fact whenever I see the word matte written on any product I often tend to pick it up just to see if it works on my skin. So when I was placing my order with MUA I saw this product on their website, it was a newly launched and it promised to give matte effect and control shine! Rest is history I bought it and have been using the same ever since.

Loose powders are a boon especially to set the concealer under the eyes where you don’t want your concealer to melt off or get cakey and settle in fine lines. I swear by my Ben Nye Banana Powder but at the same time I wanted to try something new as well. MUA Matte Perfect Loose Powder seemed good and plus the price wasnt hurting at all 🙂

Product Description:-
Make-up Academy’s Matte Perfect Loose Translucent Powder is an extremely lightweight sheer and silky setting powder. This finely milled loose powder fixes your foundation in place, perfect for minimising oiliness and unwanted shine. The micro fine featherweight texture means that it never looks powdery or feels heavy over foundation. It disappears on the skin brightening up your make up whilst keeping it in place throughout the day.
‘The trick is to apply just the right amount so that the powder becomes completely invisible even an extra dab onto the face can make the face look like a mask has been applied onto it’ – Karla Powell, MUA’s Head of Make-up Artistry

Directions:
1. Tap the bottom of your Matte Perfect Loose Powder to let some powder out.
2. Gently dab your F4 brush into the powder and tap it against the rim of the container to allow all the excess powder to fall off the brush.
3. Take the powder dusted brush to your face and begin dusting your face with it. Remember to start from the centre of the face moving to the sides gradually. It is important to make sure the nose, cheekbones, forehead and other parts of the face get equal attention

My experience with MUA Matte Perfect Loose Translucent Powder:

MUA Matte Perfect Loose powder comes in one shade ie Translucent. It retails for 2.30 pounds for 15 gms of product which seems fairly reasonable. The packaging is fairly simple, it comes in round transparent tub with a sifter inside. The sifter is quite small so you don’t get loads of product coming out which in my case usually tends to fly away everywhere! Since its transparent you can see how much product is left.

The texture of the product is finely milled but not very fine like my Ben Nye Banana Powder, I did compare both of them and Ben Nye Banana Powder is much finer in texture and feels more silky! MUA loose powder is also finely milled but reminds me of talcum powder texture, also from the swatch you can see the powder is not loose enough but rather sticks to each other, I hope I am making some sense here. The particles of the powder stick together and are not separate enough. However that does not mean it does not work.

MUA matte perfect powder works perfectly fine as a setting powder over foundation or under eye concealer. I have dry skin around my eyes and it does not settle in fine lines or wrinkles or accentuate dry patches in any way. It gives natural finish without looking caked up or artificial.

Now coming to shine control, for me it fails since it made my skin shiny after 3 hours. The shade though mentioned as translucent on the tub is of light beige color with neutral undertone ie I don’t find it too pink or too yellow. The trick is to apply loose powder with a very light hand or else it applied heavily it will make you appear ghostly white.

Overall I find it an average product and will work for all skin types, though with people with oily skin, the oil control and shine control may not be that great but for the price its a decent powder if you don’t mind touch ups during the day time.

Pros of MUA Matte Perfect Loose Translucent Powder:

-> Decent packaging, comes with a sifter.
-> Texture is finely milled.
-> Goes on matte.
-> Does not settle in fine lines or wrinkles.
-> Does not accentuate dry patches.
-> Keeps oil at bay for 3 hours.
-> Huge quantity for the price.
-> Will suit all skin types and all skin tones due to neutral under tone.

Cons of MUA Matte Perfect Loose Translucent Powder:

-> Oil control could have been better.
-> If applied heavily will leave white caste.
-> Only available in UK and online.

In the below FOTD I have the Matte Perfect foundation in the shade Natural and used the loose powder to set the foundation as well as under eye concealer.

Do I recommend MUA Matte Perfect Loose Translucent Powder?

Yes its a good loose powder especially if you are a beginner in makeup and do not want to invest huge amount of money in MAC or MUFE loose powders. This does the job well for the price and will go on for long!

I hope these MUA reviews are helpful to you all, until next time stay beautiful!

  2. parita,
    i read somewhere that for oil controlling mattifying loose powders; talc is suppose to be one of main ingredients for better absorbtion of facial oil. maybe that is the reason it has and gives sticking feeling like talc powder
