MUA Undress Your Skin Illuminating Foundation Review

MUA Undress Your Skin Illuminating Foundation Review

Oh hi. Don’t talk to me. I’m going through the grave acne depression phase and just when I thought they were going to spare me for this life, well. Anyway, I thought I would rather make the most of my sulking pass-time and do a little review of MUA’s Illuminating Foundation “Undress Your Skin” in Porcelain.

Price:

INR 1350 for 35 ml. Ouch.

Product Description:

Undress your Skin Illuminating Foundation offers a medium to full coverage and is suitable for any skin type. It gives your skin an even-toned glow and visibly gives a soft healthy radiant finish, the formula contains light-diffusing particles leaving your skin feeling refreshed and luminous all day.

My Experience with MUA Undress Your Skin Illuminating Foundation:

The thing about purchasing base products online is, well, they are likely to go wrong. But when you are cursed with a skin tone good enough to match that of a printing paper, it’s really not much of a risk. Na, credit also goes to MUA for having just three shades in the range to choose from and thereby making my job a lot easier 😛 After lipsticks, it’s foundations I’m completely utterly obsessed with! And the invention of BB, CC creams haven’t done any good to my pocket, trust me, considering that I own pretty much all the available ones 😛 😛  Back to the subject *rolls eyes*

MUA Undress Your Skin Illuminating Foundation comes in a simple tube with a screw on cap and the body of the tube reminds me of melted milk chocolate. 😀 Err, don’t ask me why.

The shade range of this particular foundation is extremely limited – just three to pick from. I opted for top of the range, porcelain.
Porcelain is a pale shade with cool undertones. It’s quite close to Ivorie Ivory from Bourjois CC range. Although it’s a *little* warm for me.

Although, it’s not the slight mismatch of shade I mind. The consistency is extreeeeemely runny. Runnier than your average liquid foundation and to be honest, it’s not a consistency you expect when the product is stuffed in a tube. To add to my misfortune, I have been using mousse and cream foundations for a good two years. My last liquid foundation was the Shiseido Sheer and Perfect one and I hope, now you can guess how much trouble this one has managed to give me.

The coverage is claimed to be medium to buildable but I find it way more than that. The entire thing is HEAVY. Coverage to the way it feels on your face. I pretty much succumbed to it along with my skin.  If you have read my previous posts, you would know how I like to call my skin a desert, it’s that dry. So there is no question of putting on any foundation without prior ( and heavy) moisturizing, but just to give you the best possible verdict, I tried this foundation with a moisturizer and without, with a primer and without. And the result was:  CAKEY! CAKEY! CAKEY! CAKEY! UGHHH CAKEY!

It highlights pores big time. They took that “Undress your skin” part way too seriously I guess.

Pros of MUA Undress Your Skin Illuminating Foundation:

  • One of the most heavy coverage foundations I have come across. You can save this one for the Halloween dress-ups or special makeup occasions.
  • Stays a good 5 hours.
  • Does illuminate well. I actually mix it with my Lakme Absolute Natural Mousse and it’s a decent decent combo 😀

Cons of MUA Undress Your Skin Illuminating Foundation:

  • That is sincerely NOT a consistency you can possibly put in a tube. Unless you have used up 3/4th of the product (which is unlikely), it’s sure to do a volcano on you every single time you try to squeeze out a bit of product. Messy.
  • Too limited a shade range.
  • Weighs on your face.
  • On the driest of the dry skins, it ends up looking patchy and cakey despite moisturizing. Imagine what it would do to oily and combination. *shudder shudder*
  • There is simply no way you could have a neat application – sponge or any kind of brush. I just cannot get it to blend picture perfect.
  • Highlights pores. I don’t even have open or big pores. Undressing your skin, more technically than you would like. Who knew foundations had superpowers? What days!
  • About 5-6 hours later, when it starts to wear off, it made me look like some lady with a snakeskin shedding disease of sorts. Awful.
  • One thousand three hundred and fifty bucks. Don’t tell mum, ok?

Quick Comparison:

Foundation failures don’t go exactly well with me and I just cannot stand the finish MUA Undress Your Skin gives. I prefer dewy, fresh, matte finish foundations where it’s hard to tell whether you’re wearing any makeup or not. 😀

From top to bottom on my forearm you have Lakme CC Cream in Beige, Bourjois CC Cream in Ivorie Ivory, Bourjois Paris Healthy Mix Foundation in Vanille Vanilla, Clinique Even Better Foundation in Neutral, MUA all in one Beauty Balm in Light, Lakme Absolute Skin Natural Mousse in Ivory Fair & MUA Undress Your Skin Illuminating Foundation.

This one is easily the closest to Bourjois CC cream in texture and consistency, but unfortunately, formula wise, this is surely my least favorite of the lot.  I know I am evil and own too many foundations for my own good. But, aadat se majboor. 😛

Overall Thoughts:

Foundation wise, this is an absolute turn off. I didn’t have the confidence to step outside with the kind of finish it gave me. Although it’s rather good as a tinted highlighter.  In the FOTD, I used moisturizer and primer to prep my skin and used my Beauty Blender to use the foundation. P.S you are so dead if you don’t use a powder to top off this one! I had to use two – one to mattify and one to set. What a pain!

Would I Repurchase MUA Undress Your Skin Illuminating Foundation?

Yes, absolutely, the Ian Somerhalder proposes me.

Would I Recommend MUA Undress Your Skin Illuminating Foundation?

No. Unless you need that much coverage and can overlook all the flaws in order to achieve so.
