Fathima asks
I am a student and I can’t afford MAC stuff but I want to try at least one product and I want to know what would be the one staple MAC item you girls think is the best to try out? And you all know that I am an eye makeup addict,so I am looking for eye makeup related recommendations.
Never used anything from MAC..but paint pots?
yeah me too also thought so..but i figured i should ask the MACup pros so that i dont waste my precious pocket money…. :chic: :chic: :chic:

If you want a base then I would say MAC paint pot in painterly or soft ochre.
Otherwise it had to MAC black track fluidline. You can line your eyes with it, you cna use it as a base for black smoky eyes, and it stays on the whole day.
hmm..i was lookin more for a base ..Rima mentioned the other day that she uses a shadestick and i was wondering, which one is better as a base, paintpot, shadestick ya paint??!
.-= fathima´s last blog ..Makeup Blunders =-.
this was one question even i always wanted to ask. So im looking forward to all the responses.
Base for the eye makeup? I am all ears now…
you don’t use anything on lids before applying eye shadows?
Helllooo I just bought my first eyeshadows!! You better put aside your belan and start talking and I take notes π
oh he he …you buy some base makeup like a paint pot, shade stick or a MAC paint . This will help your shadows stay longer, and look more vibrant. Also your shadows wouldn’t go patchy during the day.
Actually paint pot is one of my best picks from MAC.
oh did i tell you that those lancome kohl pencils are fantabulous?
Ha..that I know – the Lancome pencils! I am just waiting for my salary to make it to my bank…next month. Hubby will be told to look after the house…I will pack my picnic basket..and start SHOPPING π π π

I don’t have a prob with them staying on or going patchy..they are on till I take them off, but I would never know the difference until I try na π
.-= Radhika´s last blog ..Review- Lancome Hydra Zen Neurocalm Cream-Gel =-.
yup. you must try. π
And if I have to pick one brush for eye makeup, it would be 217. It applies , blends and diffuses the eye shadows. You would be able to find good dupes for most MAC brushes but not for 217.
Couldnt agree more to you Rati!! Mac 217 is a must to have brush and nothing can really replace it. I use it all the time that i have 2 of them, one in my vanity and the other in my travel bag.
hmm now i have to save up for MAC brushes too??!! what are you girls doing to me??!! π₯ π₯
.-= fathima´s last blog ..Makeup Blunders =-.
he eh I also have two of them. π Never feel in love with a brush to say the least. π
I would definitely say Paint Pots. It is a product which I am convinced of 100% even before using.
thankies Poorni..i miss hanging out with you all…school work is driving me up the wall! :pissedoff: :pissedoff: :pissedoff:

If I have to give my top picks from MAC, it would be:
Viva Glam V – Lipstick
Syrup – Lipstick
Desert Rose – Blush
Sincere – Blush
woodwinked – eyeshadow
saddle -“”-
all that glitters – “”-
nehru – “”-
Studio Fix Mascara
Fluidline – Blacktrack
Brush – 217, 219
Paint pot
Mineralize Skin Finish SPF 15
I little long in know…but once invested you are set for a looong, loonng time π

thank you!!! :-* :-*
I couldnt agree more with Rashmi. However if you are just starting out and want to try something really good from Mac you should save the money for the brushes. Any good flat brush will be enough(replacing 239) and a nice tappered crease brush should do the trick. Or may be invest only in 239. You can do the complete eye makeup with 239 (ok blending is gonna be a bit challenging).
In any case i would like to recommend the following:
1. Simple look:
– Painterly paint pot all over the lids upto the brow bone.
– Mystery eye shadow on the crease and blend it well.
– No highlight required as the painterly paint pot applied before will act as a natural highlight.
So products for the above simple look:
– Painterly paint pot and Mystery eye shadow
I do this look almost all the time when am too lazy or have less time or cannot decide what colours to wear. Its really a nice look that would suit anything anytime – i bet you.
2. Neutral look (one of my fav).
– Painterly paint pot only on the lid
– Bruhle eye shadow all over the lid upto the brow bone
– Folie eye shadow on the outter corner taking it into the crease
– Naked lunch pigment on the rest of the lid where there is no colour
That would so nice and simple/neutral eye makeup. And i would say Naked lunch is a must to have pigment. Try it out you will never regret the spent
3. Pink – Everyday look
– Fresco rose paint pot or any pink base would do. If not even painterly paint pot should be ok. Apply it all over the lid
– Expensive pink on the lids
– Wedge on the crease (if you are dark go for cork)
– Espresso on the outter corner
– Naked lunch eye shaow to highlight.
Its a simple everyday look that i wear at work almost everyday.
To summarize i would recommend the following Mac eye products to start with:
– Painterly paint pot
– 1 choice of colour in pink – Expensive pink
– 1 crease colour – Wedge/cork (depending on your skin colour, wedge is for medium/light, cork – dark)
– 1 choice of outter eye corner colour – Expresso/Folie
– 1 highlight colour – Vanilla
π Happy shopping.
π You have made me so curious. π
Thanks. Although i cannot take complete credit as its not my own creations. Just learnt it over time from various good sources. When i first started out with Makeup there was no one to help me out, and i learnt it all by myself(and still learning).. But i would defly want to share my learnings with others who wants to give it a start.. In any case, my information is nothing compared to the amount of info you girls share in this blog π
But it’s very useful, Anitha. I will check out the mystery eye shadow since you like it so much. π
God the mac list is getting longer only. π
Pair the mystery(its greyish colour) with Nyx mega shine lipgloss in Desert. It will be a nice fall look.. Although i wonder what could be the nice blush that would pair with this?
Gosh….we hve some pros here….the way they talk abt this stuff and even suggest the mix n match of e/s :worship:
I am so learning every single day, HD. π
just saw the shades..A pale pink blush would look good because both lips and eyes would eb quite bright. π
Mystery is gorgeous.
actually a colour like trace gold would also look good on cheeks because desert has a golden sheen to it. So no colour and just subtle shine would also look good.
Thanks sssssssssssssooooooooo much Anitha~! hoping to see more of you around!! :-* :-* :-*
Perfect Rati!! Thank you..

Defly black track fluidline. For the price you’ll get so much use out of the product..very long lasting. Can also be used on waterline. You can thin pointed paint brush for application too.
Ohh! thankies Jane..and i guess you remembered my issue with the shahanaz kajal while writin this reply!! :-* :-* :-*

:)) I thought we all confused you. π And now you want to buy ALL the products?
I am ambitious now!! i have a goal!!! :fingersxd: :fingersxd: :fingersxd:
Hi,
I am a young professional in my late twenties and was not very much into makeup apart from eyeliner and lipstick.
Can you pl help with a simple hassle free looks – one for day time and one for light party wear? I would rather like a natural flawless finish.
I am a south Indian with typical wheatish skin (dusky but not dark). I would prefer good value for money products, but I do not want to compromise quality for money.
Would greatly appreciate any advice in this regard.
