My Name is Khan Inspired Kajol Makeup (Video)

my name is khanWatched My Name is Khan yesterday. I must say that SRK and Kajol created magic once again. I think I am going to watch the movie again. Loved it a lot. πŸ™‚

Regarding Kajol’s makeup: It was done by a Mac Makeup artist, Mickey Contractor ( I think).Β  I so loved the makeup. There was not much play with the colours or eye shadows per se. The basic makeup moved around electric blue, blacks andΒ  browns for eyes and nudish-brownish lips throughout. Smokey eyes wih minimal shadows made her naina stand out. πŸ™‚ Hair were straightened and tied in a ponytail in most part of the movie. Her eyebrows were not done, you could see her eyebrows meeting at the center. She is ageing so beautifully. That’s everything that makes Kajol so special. You don’t have to be perfect. You just have to be yourself. So what if you have these tiny hair on your chin or your eyebrows are not plucked all the time? The person within you and the way you feel about yourself could charm so many people around you.:)

I was so happy after watching the movie that I ended up recording my first ever video. πŸ˜› You could also call it a beginner’s eye makeup but this was the closest I could get to her makeup. I think most of her makeup was from Mac but I did it with whatever was available with me. This is the black and brown version. I might do the blue one as well. πŸ™‚

PS: Don’t bother about the under eyes. I work way too much on computer to get rid of those. πŸ™‚ Hope you like it. Your feed back is welcome. πŸ™‚

PS: There is music in the background. I can’t speak while doing makeup so I have added the captions that will help you recognize the products I have used. Please switch on your speakers while watching the video.

  1. Came across your site by accident a couple of weeks ago and totally loving it. Read all the posts from 1st to last in a couple of hours! Have even bought some products that you have recommended. I just bought the maybelline Chai Latte Quad last week, after reading your views on it. Anyway, am a total make-up novice, but this video makes me wanna try using some eye shadow (I’m more of an eyeliner/ kajal/ mascara kinda gal).

Keep up the great work. would love to see more videos from you πŸ™‚

Also, what song/ artist was that? It was lovely!

  2. Hi Ame,

I am glad you found my blog useful. πŸ™‚ This video was a random attempt. Infact, I didn’t have a handy mirror with me and just recorded it by looking at the camera. I hope it helps you in some way. πŸ™‚ I am aware that a lot of women are scared of using shadows but liners are something that almost every woman uses. So I thought it would be kind of a beginner’s tutorial that would push some of the beginner’s around to play with eye makeup.

I don’t remember the artist name. πŸ™ It was some random tune lying in my laptop folder. Just added it. Glad you liked it. πŸ™‚

  3. Hi Rati,

    Happy Valentines Day!!

Lovely video dear. You made it look so simple..really. Hope to see more from you in future.
Btw, Mac paintpot in painterly was the base used on your eyes is it?

    Good effort..keep it up πŸ™‚
OOh and one more thing. Why is your site unavailable at times. Yesterday, the whole day I was getting an error message. In fact this happened 2 days ago too.

I could open it only today morning…

    Regds

  4. Hi Poornima,

A very Happy Valentine’s day to you too sweetheart. πŸ™‚ Yes, I used Mac paintpot in painterly as a base. This keeps shadows in place and holds them for long. Also, because the shade is light flesh colour, it works great with almost all shadows.Price is Rs 1050 but it will take you forever to finish it up. I got it picked up from a friend the other day and I am really liking it a lot. Btw, thanks for the ice cream spoon idea. Did you notice I have already incorporated it? πŸ˜›

Glad you liked the video. This really means a lot to me. πŸ™‚

I am not sure about the site not opening but I guess that must be a server problem. Thanks for bringing this in notice. I’ll let my server guys know about it. πŸ™‚

  5. Thanks for the prompt reply Rati.

I have been looking for a good eye base.Looks like this one will serve the purpose.

And yeah..I did notice the ice cream spoon πŸ˜€

Btw, inspired by you guys, I started a blog too..

    Do check out when time permits glitterglamourgrace{dot}blogspot{com}

    Love

  6. great video , really helpful
    great for everyday look πŸ™‚
will look forward to more videos

and pls mention the brushes you used , it will help us a lot

I can neva find brushes other than vega in general stores(yeah I know about colorbar and QVS ones , buh they are not easily availble πŸ™

  7. Oh thanks. πŸ™‚ The brushes are the random. I picked from here and there over a period of time. πŸ™ I just remember that the ones that I used I picked up from Kunchals. No branded stuff as such. I also have most brushes from Vega but now I really want to make a move from them. They are good for learning purposes but now I am done using them.

How was your farewell? Was waiting for your updates.

  8. Will someone get the name plate ready? NOW!

I was more nervous watching ur video! I never thought u wud come on to YT one day! Not that you shouldnt, but as far as I know you, I thought that wud not happen at all!

Finally, u came! No turning back frm now! Wish u all the success in ur future endeavours, Rati!

Sorry, but I have never been a great fan of either SRK or kajol! SO, pls dont mind on that part! Your video was simply superb!

  9. Palak: Just saw. You are a darling! πŸ™‚

Divija: I myself never thought. It was just a random thing I did. I hope I don’t turn back from here. Thank you for the wishes. πŸ™‚ Oh! I have absolutely no issues about you liking someone or not. Your choice. πŸ˜› Thank you for all the kind words. πŸ™‚

  10. Hey, What a gr8 video πŸ˜€

Congrats Rati, yr off to a gr8 start and i hope to see even more videos in the future πŸ™‚

I dunno how you manage to notice makeup when watching a movie :D.

I guess i am just too engrossed in the storyline πŸ˜€

I cldn’t catch the movie here, coz most theaters r nt showing it coz of the protests.

Dunno, if you noticed, but there seems to be a common thread between Kareena’s Kurbaan and Kajol’s make up here – same smokey eyes (i don’t if the relation is becoz they both are KJo movies) Only the colors differ – blue and browns.

I was wondering if i cld put in a request for a tutorial on Kareena’s makeup in Kambhatak Ishq. Now that movie was really boring – so i noticed a lot of Kareena’s makeup. And she wears a lot of different looks in the movie.

In fact in the beginning she has smokey eyes, but post interval the focus shifts to her lips and she has on some of the most lovely pinks and berries I have seen in a long time, which i liked – they were a nice change to all the smokey eyes/nude lips that every actress is doing these days.

Kajol – Yea, she has aged gracefully. In fact I feel that while she is one of the most talented actresses around – she doesn’t seem to use her physicality/looks to her advantage at all – which is both good and bad. Rather she seems very similar (clothes, looks, make up) in all her movies, unlike a Kareena who experiments widely.

I dunno if this is just my imagination – but her skin tone is much fairer these days compared to her tone pre-marriage (KKHH – for example). That time she used to be dusky, in the Olay ad she is positively as fair as Madhuri Dixit. There is just no duskiness to her skin now. Maybe she is taking better care of her skin now πŸ˜€

  11. Thanks Tanveer. There is similarity and a difference between Kajol’s and Kareena’s makeup in both movies. The similarity as you pointed out is the usage of similar palette- browns, blues and blacks. Also the blue on Kareena in Kubaan is a kind of Prussian blue while on Kajol’s blue is similar to what Rima used here: https://makeupandbeauty.com/2010/01/kareena-kapoors-kurbaan-eyes-by-rima/

Another difference is that Kareena’s makeup was sharper in terms of liner application while Kajol’s was more smudged and soft. That was the reason I used only eye pencils to do the look. I have not seen Kambakht Ishq. I couldn’t stand the trailers only πŸ˜› but I will see if I could get hang of her makeup from videos or if you could send me a pic of anything particular you have in mind.

Kajol is looking dusky in the movie but yes, I find her skin really fake in the Olay ad. We are so used of seeing her beautiful duskiness, I wonder why she even chose to do that ad.

Honestly Tanveer, I have never liked Kareena except for her role in Refugee and three idiots. It’s just that she is doing some good makeup looks these days so I kind of cover her looks that that’s that. πŸ˜› I would always place Kajol over her for anything.

  12. Thanks Rati!

Oh I loved Kareena in Jab We Met! Kajol, of course, is an excellent actress, I loved her in DDLJ. She looked so real and pretty in that movie πŸ˜€

Here’s what I could find online on Kareena’s KI look, from her makeup artist M Bhat’s interview:

“At first she has a plain Jane look, followed by a cute girl-next-door look and then she ultimately turns into an ultra-glam diva as she plays a model in the film.

For her glamorous look, I used metallic liners in colors like charcoal, blue, green, grey and played around with a lot of shimmer on her eyes. But what remained permanent for Kareena throughout the film was the creamy baby pink lip color liptint/lipstick. “

  13. Tanveer, I’ll try. πŸ™‚ And I forgot Jab we met. Liked her a lot there. I was sad that she broke up with Shahid after that. πŸ™

    Sarah: Thank you. πŸ™‚

Jewel: Appreciate it. Do try it out. It’s very easy:)

  14. talking about kajol and fairness, i am 100% sure (its obvious!) that her skin has been digitally enhanced for the olay ad. it looks FAKE FAKE FAKE! thats not her real skin! now if you look at dipika padukone in this new fairness ad, you’ll see that her skin has been shown as it is, without any enhancement like digital alteration or strong lighting.

most of the actresses who have been around for a couple of years look better now. the only reason is better makeup and better lighting. if you compare the shilpa shetty of yesteryears (sure she’s got a nose job done too) to how she is now, you will see a world of difference. her hair’s better, her skin’s glowing… i can go on and on. same can be said for others. even shahrukh khan isnt quite as fair as he is made out to be! check out his old movies and you will know what i am talking about..

rati, congratulations of your first video! its crisp and to the point. what i like about such videos is that they dont ramble on forever and bore you to death.. most videos i see out there dont even get to the point after 4-5 minutes! honestly neither do i have the patience nor the time to go through such videos! keep it up.

i think i might get that chai latte quad today. i have used maybelline’s singles, but the colour payoff has been pretty rubbish. but after hearing so much about this quad, even from tanveer at addictedtoblush recently, i have decided to shell out those few odd bucks and give it a shot. good its cheap, so i wont feel too bad if i dont like it.

hmm i wanted to say something else too. but after rambling on till now, i have forgotten what it was. i’ll let you know once i remember it. till then, hope you had a good valentine’s day!

  15. I know that neutrogena ad and the olay ads don’t do justice to how beautiful Deepika and Kajol could look with their original skin tone. πŸ™‚

Thank you for the wishes. I also got a hate comment today and was really sad since morning. Not that it would stop me from doing something just that it upsets you when you put in so much of hard work at doing something and someone just gladly walks in and ruins your day. I hope I do good work in future. This was just a beginning and I thought I’d just share it without guys even though it was not so perfect.

Chai latte quad is a very versatile quad. I think you must get it and you wouldn’t ever regret buying it. πŸ™‚

I had a great Valentine’ Day. It was the first Valentine’s day I celebrated with my husband even thought we dated each other for 4 years before our marriage. πŸ˜› For some reason we were never together on any of the previous Valentine’s day. So this was officially the first one and it was special. Hope you also had a great day. πŸ™‚

  16. Hey Rati…I wonder who in their right senses would not like your blog & posts and send u hate comments…maybe its just out of jealousy…not maybe…I am sure its just out of jealousy!!!

But you dont take that seriously, you are doing a absolutely gr8 job with your blog!!! Keep it up!! n just thrash such comments

  17. Rima, Have asked the server guys to sort it out. Thanks. πŸ™‚

HD, thanks for the kind words. Although I was aware that if I am posting youtube videos, I should be prepared for all such hate comments but I guess since I have just started , it was kind of a jerk for me. I am learning to ignore such things. πŸ™‚

    *hugs*

  18. Nishah, there is a music in the background. I can’t speak while doing makeup. Also, if you have noticed there are annotations in the video that will help you to recognize the products that I have used.
