My Experience with NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation:
This foundation is not thick. It does have a runny consistency but it is not watery.
It spreads very easily and blends effortlessly. It is directed to blend the foundation with fingertips but I prefer using my beauty blender and it gives me a beautiful streak free finish. It does set quickly hence if you are slow with working with your foundation I would recommend blending it in sections. I however am quick with my blending and do my whole face at once with the sponge without any issues.
Nars claims that with this foundation 1 drop is all you need. This claim couldn’t be truer. 1 drop which is equivalent to 1 pump gives me full coverage. It covered all my skin imperfection from redness, to uneven pigmentation and almost faded acne scars.
This could also be considered as a con as I did not find this foundation to be buildable. It does tend to look cakey and bunched up if applied more than 1 layer. It looks best when applied as a thinnest layer on the skin.
It gives a beautiful semi matte/natural looking/velvet finish to the skin. I did not notice any visible luminosity in terms of shine or greasy but it definitely did not give me flat looking skin.
I did find that it accentuated my pores hence using a good primer underneath preferably a smoothing, pore filling, and silicone-based primer gave me a much better results.
The shade I have is Valluaris which is described as medium with pink undertones. It does match my Mac NW 23 skin perfectly apart from the fact that this foundation had more of a yellow tone than pink. Still, it did not look unflattering. It literally was undetectable on my skin and felt very weightless.
Feel on skin:
This foundation is not drying but it not hydrating either. For my extremely dry skin I did have to slather my skin in moisturizer before using this for my skin to feel comfortable. It did accentuate some of my existing dry patches on the skin but did not cause new patchiness.
This is a truly long-wearing foundation. It stays looking good on me for a good 9-10 hours. I haven’tworn this foundation longer than that. It did not smudge or fade nor did it oxidize. It did not get greasy or oily or made my skin shiny by the end of the day. I literally did not need to do any touch-up. But something to consider is that I do have dry skin overall with some oily areas like my chin which do tend to get shiny . But during winter season, my skin does not face the oiliness issue.
I do believe, people with oily skin will love this foundation as it is oil free and has good oil-control properties.
By the end of the day, it had cracked and settled in certain areas of my face (example my laugh lines on my cheeks) which makes me think – for mature skin that suffers from more fine lines, this wouldn’t be a suitable product. But overall,it looked impeccable.
I do like this foundation very much but it is not my favorite. If you are someone who is tempted by the Luminous aspect of this foundation I would say the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk will give you much better results but with a little less coverage.
In terms of better feeling on the skin, the Dior star foundation gives a much better smoother-looking skin (blurred pores and fine lines) and is much more comfortable wearing, though not as long wearing as the Nars one.
If you do decide to splurge on this product, I don’t think you will be disappointed.
