Tips : Bronzing Powder makes the skin look healthy and glowing. I was very precise with the amount of shimmer – I wanted to create an effect that made you look radiant and natural.

Bronzing Powder is used to create the illusion of sun-kissed skin. It shouldn’t be used all over the face; just apply it to the areas that would be hit by the sun: the forehead, bridge of nose, tops of cheeks, and chin. Take what’s left on the brush and blend onto the neck and decolleté so there is no line of demarcation. Bronzer should be transluscent. The brush that you use will make a big difference in your application: denser, shorter hairs will pick up more pigment than looser, longer hairs. If you’re heavy-handed with bronzer, try using the Loose Powder Brush or Blush Brush to apply. –James Boehmer, Director of Global Artistry

My Experience with NARS Casino Bronzing Powder

I was sooo obsessed with NARS Laguna Bronzing Powder that I used every last bit of it. And I am someone who rarely hits pan on the products because I am always hopping from one product to the other. But then I also got a bit bored of it so I thought I’d try something new. I picked up NARS Casino Bronzing Powder, which is a darker deeper version of Laguna. It is more appropriate for people with medium to deeper skin tones. For my light-medium wheatish skin tone I perfect to use it more as a  contouring product than like a sun-kissed glow kind of a product. And I absooolutely love it for contouring.

A teeny bit goes a long way and it gives a lovely definition to the face with least effort. With Laguna, I feel that the color was a tad bit lighter for me and I used to use it quite a lot to get the definition so I hit pan on it pretty soon. This color being deeper, I need little bit so this is going to go a long way for me.

It has very fine and beautiful golden shimmer. The shimmer is actually pretty much invisible unless you use a heavy hand. It actually looks pretty matte when applied on the skin. The color does not have orangey undertones to it so it looks rather nice and natural on the skin. Deeper skins can use it as an overall color for that natural sun kissed glow.

Casino bronzing powder is translucent so it blends beautifully with the skin. You can build it up and it does not look powdery or cakey.

It is suuper pigmented. I’d suggest that you start with less product and then build it up. The color is deep enough that it can totally make you look punched in the face (if you are not careful using it..that is). 😛

It stays on my skin pretty much the entire day. If I have used it in the morning, I still see that it it has not completely disappeared on my skin. Let’s say 7-8 hours on my normal to dry skin. And it does not go patchy at all.

Overall, it would be hard for me to pick between Laguna and Casino. But I feel I could use Laguna more carelessly than Casino because the color was lighter and it had to be built up on my NC 35 skin. So Laguna was more forgiving. But the kind of definition and chiselled look that casino gives with least effort, it makes it one of my favourite contouring product esp for the photographs.

I wouldn’t mind having both in my collection. Love NARS Bronzing Powders to bits. They have seriously nailed these.

  1. It’s so subtle, and looks perfect on your skin tone – nothing harsh or dramatic. I love how it gives a defined and sun kissed look. Trying Nars products is my dream now. 😀

  2. I can’t believe this hadn’t been reviewed till now. Im glad that you DID review it coz there isn’t a review of Laguna vs Casino on medium skin tone. I had a real tough time figuring which to buy (about a year back). Finally i picked Casino. And was happy with it. But there was always a niggling doubt in my mind that Casino is a bit dark. I knew you were using Laguna and loved it and since we are pretty much the same skin tone, I used to wonder if I should have picked Laguna instead. So Im glad to see this review. And yes, a little does go a long way and it DOES contour beautifully.
