NARS Cyprus Eyeshadow Review

NARS Cyprus Eyeshadow

I am a one-color, sweep-all-over-lid eyeshadow kind of girl. I am just not adventurous right now with eye makeup. I still ooh and aah over pretty eyeshadow palettes (Naked 3!) and think of getting them, but what I find myself actually doing regularly is using a single eyeshadow color and sweeping it all over my lids, with the intention of making my eyes look brighter. Lately I’ve been using the NARS Cyprus Eyeshadow for that.

Product claim: Luminous, light-reflecting shades for shading, highlighting, and lining eyes.Highly pigmented, longwearing, crease resistant colors that can be applied sheer or layered for more dramatic effects. Color glides on smoothly, evenly and blends effortlessly.

Cyprus – Bronze with shimmer

My experience with NARS Cyprus Eyeshadow:

My only experience with NARS eyeshadows had been with their Duo Eyeshadows, I didn’t really notice their single eyeshadows before, so when I sought out the Cyprus single eyeshadow, I was a little surprised by its size. It’s teeny! The whole thing is about half the size of a NARS Blush compact. It contains .07 oz or 2.2 grams of product, and costs 24 USD. Locally, here in Manila, I got it for 1350 PHP, which is around 1850 INR.

The compact is the same as all of NARS’ packaging, black with that rubbery feel.

Cyprus, to my eyes, is a light, tan-bronze shade with shimmer. More tan than bronze. It is a warm, neutral eyeshadow. Neutral eyeshadows go best with natural-looking, light makeup, which is the makeup look I usually go for, but I find that warm neutrals in particular suit my medium (NC 30-35 in MAC), warm, yellow skin tone best when I want a natural look and don’t want to think too much if all of my makeup coordinates with each other.

The NARS Cyprus Eyeshadow is a little sheer. Because of that and its being tan, it almost blends into my medium skin tone. Worn on my lids it brings a little gold, or bronze, and some shine to my eyes. Cyprus is sheer but buildable. I often apply Cyprus on my lower lids, building up the color by patting it on with my pinkie, then sweep it on the crease, and with a lighter touch, on the brow bone. It’s very comfortable to wear for daytime and looks natural. The shimmer is not over the top. For nighttime I can lay this on more heavily and pair it with a dark brown shadow in the crease for a more dramatic look.

I find the texture of Cyprus silky and smooth. It’s not powdery and isn’t too soft or creamy in the pan (so that my pinkie doesn’t leave an obvious dent in the pan when I use it). It applies smoothly on my lids and it doesn’t have much fall out. It is easy to work with, applied with a brush or just my finger.
It also lasts fairly long, about five hours when worn without primer, and most of the day when worn over eyeshadow primer.

I like the NARS Cyprus Eyeshadow because it goes with my minimal/natural makeup look, it makes my eyes look a bit brighter and more awake, and it looks so pretty when worn with mascara and brown or black liner!

Cons of NARS Cyprus Eyeshadow:

• Expensive

Overall: If you’re looking for a warm, light, sheer but buildable neutral eyeshadow that’s on the warm side of the color spectrum and which can be used as an allover lid color, or with other shades, and you won’t mind spending extra on it, I couldn’t recommend the NARS Cyprus Eyeshadow enough. I would certainly buy it again.

  1. its really pricy *scared* but the color is so beautiful and so natural looking that it can easily be used on everyday basis……. *happydance* *happydance*

    1. Swati, I agree! 😀 But yah I feel that the price is justified by the color and quality. Definitely best to pick a color that you know you will use regularly when it comes to eyeshadow with this price range. 🙂
