Nars Dual-Intensity Blush – Panic Review

There are lots of mistakes you can make while entering a Sephora. Having no clue what you want to buy, just wandering down the aisles aimlessly and but definitely harboring a desire to splurge on those stocked shelves full of goodies. I made all of these mistakes and I am slightly regretting it. When I wandered in, a sales associate came to me and started asking questions about what I was looking for and I vaguely remembered I needed a blush. I’m not much of a blush person, and I wanted a good one. She immediately pushed me towards their newest launch, the Nars Dual-Intensity Blushes.

My Experience with Nars Dual-Intensity Blush – Panic:

Packaging: The blush comes in a small square box with a mirror. It’s small and cute and I totally see myself using this to do my entire routine if I’m on the go. The finish of the box is matte, and I can see this attracting dirt and dust just while sitting on my vanity. However, it is nice and sturdy, very travel friendly and I can pop it in my bag and forget about it breaking.

Texture: These have a harder texture than other blushes I swatched. I was very tempted to buy something from their original collection, which felt a little more powdery and less stiff like these. But two pigmented colours for $45 and the iconic square pattern which seems to be the characteristic pattern of the Dual-Intensity range definitely floored me.

Colors: The shade panic consists of two pans described as: shimmering shocking fuchsia/shimmering orange-pink. I swatched these on my hand and they looked super pigmented even just dry. Nars released this collection with the intention that they would be used both wet and dry. According to them, using this dry this comes off as a regular coloured powder blush and wet it should look like a cream blush. But logically speaking, any pigment when wet just increases pigmentation. This performed exactly like that.
When I applied it on my skin dry, it was really pigmented. Once I blended with my brush, it set well and looked really good. I applied with quite a light hand and it gave a nice wash of colour.

Panic pink shade: This is a fuchsia shade with cool undertones and I paired it with a sheer pinky fuschia lip. It lasted about 6 hours on my cheeks. It did not accentuate lines or pores when used dry. It brightened up my face and made me look happy and healthy. It requires some effort to blend and this shade is more pigmented of the two. It looks quite strong, so eye and lip makeup should be well-coordinated.

Panic orange shade: This is an orangey pink shade with warmer undertones than the above. I liked it that they included both a cool and a warm one. Slightly less strong than the previous one, consequently it is easier to blend and pull off. I’ve paired this with a sheer coral lip. I can totally see myself using this as an everyday cheek color going into spring and summer. This is also been used dry.

When used wet, the pigment and metallic nature increased and it just made my face look weird. Too much pigment and and too much shimmer. I am not sure if this is just my ineptitude at applying blushes or what, but I found it really hard to blend and I looked like a clown. I like it so much better dry and this wet/dry is definitely just a marketing ploy for blushes. For eyeshadows however, it is a different story.

Would I repurchase Nars Dual-Intensity Blush – Panic?

No. Not at this price. I am rethinking this even now.

Would I recommend Nars Dual-Intensity Blush – Panic?

You might find that you may just not reach out to these always. There are other iconic blushes from NARS, in terms of quality. I feel like I was just lured by the new collection. But you can make an informed choice. The other blushes all have the pros of these without some of the cons. However, some of the shades in this collection are quite unique. Barring these, I would not recommend this. If you really like a shade then definitely go ahead. You won’t go wrong with the quality.

This collection has other lovely shades. I particularly loved the coppery shade in Fervor. They also have bronzing/highlighting duos if you are headed for the beach this spring. A good collection overall. Go to the store to check these out and don’t make the same mistakes as I did. 😛

  1. I think that generally happens, especially when you visit places like Mac & Sephora initially without planning ahead, studying the collections and deciding what to get. It’s very easy to get overwhelmed by the numerous choices. And the SAs tend to push you towards products they get higher commissions on. That said, I think the blushes are really pretty & look excellent on you! 🙂

    1. Very true! One of the biggest mistakes you can do is be vague or aimless. Suddenly I’ll find myself holding a bunch of makeup that I don’t need. 😛
      And thanks. 🙂

  2. Nars is renowned for its blushes… But i wish they had maintained the quality with these…. Both shades look pretty on u… But the quality could hav been better

  3. I was eyeing this blush since its release and but now I am glad I didnt get it.. thank u for the very helpful review Malyatha.. btw u look adorable

    1. You’re welcome Neha! But do check out the shade Fervor, I would have gone for that next. There’s a coppery shade in it to die for..

  4. Great to see a just released item on IMBB – this was the only duo which had interested me. But reading your review, I’m gonna skip this. I’d much rather pick a TF or one of the original NARS blushes.

  5. Firstly, you look fab! And secondly, I couldn’t have put it down any better as you did when you explained about the confusion you face when you enter Sephora!
