NARS Satin Lip Pencil – Luxembourg Review

NARS Satin Lip Pencil – Luxembourg Review

Long time, no see! Its been a few days since I wrote. Now, I am back.  After reviewing the awesome Lodhi from NARS Satin Lip Pencil range, I bring to you a red fuchsia from this range – Luxembourg.  Just like Lodhi was named after the Lodhi Gardens in Delhi, this one is named after Jardin du Luxembourg (Luxembourg Gardens) in Paris.  Lodhi was a 5/5 product for me. Is this range consistent across shade range? Let’s find out!

Product Description:

Satin Lip Pencil dresses up lips in statement shades that seduce with rich, color-bright pigments while drenching them in decadent moisture. A modern, long-wearing, vitamin-enriched formula in a jumbo pencil format to provide great wear and intense color with a satin finish. Use for lining, all-over lip color, or pairing with another lip product.

  • High-impact intense color.
  • Convenient, easy and precise application.

François’ Insight – I see the strength of rich, smoldering lips against a fresh face.

Packaging:

As mentioned in the product description and my previous review of Lodhi, the product is a chubby fat lip crayon – colour of lipstick, convenience of a pencil. It comes in a black cardboard box, as all NARS products do.

The lip pencil’s bottom end bears the colour of the product, making it easy to identify the colour in a jiffy.  If you have more than one of these, as I do. The name too is written on the side. The pencil has a black cap to protect the product. In itself, the product does not look too luxe, but NARS does not really do jazzy packaging of products.

My Experience with NARS Satin Lip Pencil – Luxembourg:

Colour:  Unlike Lodhi, I bought this for the colour, it’s a bright fuchsia red. This was my first pick from this range. The shade is described on the website as “vivid watermelon.” To me, it has more fuchsia pink mixed with red rather than a watermelon red. The colour is bold and bright and would be universally flattering, irrespective of the skin tone.

Texture: Texture is buttery smooth and the pencil just glides on, no tug or pull. Its lightweight, creamy and comfortable while worn. While Lodhi had seemed hydrating, this shade did not seem hydrating, comfortable but not hydrating.

Pigmentation: It is extremely pigmented, about 90% colour deposit in a single swipe. The colour is opaque in the first swipe itself and hides lip pigmentation fully and effectively.

Lasting Power:  The product lasted for about 5 hours on me post after which it faded evenly. There was no dry patch or clinging feeling.

Overall, I liked the texture and feel of the product and the convenience of it being in a pencil form. I just wish NARS would take a page from the Clinique book and make them with twist-up mechanism, like Chubby Sticks, rather than this traditional form.

To sum this up for you:

Pros of NARS Satin Lip Pencil – Luxembourg:

  • A beautiful pinky red fuchsia colour.
  • Lightweight creamy texture.
  • Has a nice healthy pretty shine, no shimmer.
  • Excellent pigmentation – opaque in a single swipe.
  • Extremely comfortable while worn.
  • The lipstick applies smoothly, no tug or pull!
  • Does not settle into the fine lines of the lips.
  • No feathering or bleeding.
  • Convenient packaging, easy to apply and easy to carry, doesn’t take much space in the bag.

Cons of NARS Satin Lip Pencil – Luxembourg:

  • Unavailability in India.
  • Needs to be sharpened, product wastage during sharpening.

IMBB Rating:

4.8/5 product.

The product is amazing, I would have picked up more of these had the price point been better and if they had a twist-up mechanism. Do check this range out – it has some absolutely stunning colours.
