My Experience with NARS Smooth and Protect Primer SPF 50:
I have been using the new NARS Smooth and Protect Primer for over a week now. First, I love the sleek matte white and black packaging, it’s like you just slip it in your bag and you are good to go. It is a more of a day time everyday primer since it gives amazing sun protection of SPF 50. It reminded me a lot of Benefit Porefessional Professional Primer, but I like this one more texture wise.
Benefit Porefessional is slightly thicker than this and is better only to use on targeted areas. The texture is quite smooth and goes evenly on the skin. It fills the pores and gives an even surface for foundation to go on smoothly. This is a silicone-based primer and this is what it is meant to do. I love that it is a two-in-one product because it not only smooths out the skin, but also provides broad sun protection – it is rare to find in primers. You can totally skip wearing sunscreen with this one, which is great.
It gives a soft matte finish to the skin and does not feel greasy or heavy. There is no fragrance to it. The primer does not ball up, which could be a problem with many silicone-based primers. This one is a total winner in that area. People with all skin types can use this. I have normal to dry skin and my skin does not feel dry after using it. It also does not make skin sweaty. I would like to mention this because people find this problem when they use sunscreens or such high SPF products.
But the best thing I like about this primer is that it makes my makeup looking fresh all day long. I have worn it for good 7-8 hours and I always notice how nice and fresh my makeup looks even at the end of the day. It not only makes my foundation last longer, but also my blush and highlighter look fab at the end of the day.
I would not recommend using the primer for flash photography because of high SPF. Also, if you are allergic to dimethicone, definitely be wary of this one because it is one of the main ingredient of this foundation. I never broke me out despite using pretty much everyday now.
This is definitely my new favourite primer these days. I abbbsolutelyyy love using it almost every time I do my makeup. It makes my makeup look nice in photos as well. It does not make my skin look overly matte but almost gives that soft, blurred focus on the skin. And once this is on, rest of the products that go afterwards on the skin also good.
- People with big pores. It would help in minimising, but if you are looking for a super solid pore minimizer, Benefit Porefessional is still a better one. This is more like an everyday product that helps those who are not really fond of using sunscreens. This would double up both as a sunscreen and makeup product.
- For all skin types.
- Those looking for an oil-free primer.
Not Good For:
- Those allergic to silicones.
