Here I am back with yet another review of a lip pencil from NARS. I am not much into darker shades nowadays, but I really wanted at least one lipstick which has a darker tone, a change from my light shades. So, I after my whole research, found this one. Let’s see how good it is.
The application of a lipstick combined with the convenience of a pencil in a jumbo crayon design. Lips are instantly saturated with rich pigments and a velvety matte finish. The long lasting, non-drying formula is enriched with emollients for a creamy texture, while a combination of unique silicones ensures long-lasting, seamless color for hours. Use for lining, all-over lip color, or pairing with another lip product. Rich, vivid shades. Enriched with Vitamin E. Convenient, easy application.
My Take on NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil – Never Say Never:
Colour: NARS describes the shade as a lilac rose. It is a muted form of fuchsia with cool undertones. It is a mix of magenta and purple to be precise, neither one stands out. The colour also tends to vary in different lights.
Texture: Like the Satin lip pencil, these too glide beautifully on lips without any tugging or pulling. It is not creamy in texture, but they remain soft and smooth on lips. It is neither hydrating nor dry – stays perfect.
Finish: It has a pure matte finish and does not settle into lip lines, but there is a tendency to highlight dry patches, so prior exfoliation would be a good idea. I personally love matte finishes, but I usually find them to be a bit on the drying side. I really loved the feel of this on my lips, I have dry lips, so mattes always have a tendency to dry out my lips even more, it was different in this case. Even though there was no moisturizing effect, it did not parch my lips. It was also quite light-weight and I never felt like I had lipstick on my lips.
Pigmentation and Coverage: It’s a buildable colour, multiple swipes are needed to bring out the exact shade. It gives medium to full coverage, but not opaque. The colour might vary according to lip pigmentation as it is not an opaque shade.
Staying Power: This lip pencil has an amazing staying power. It stayed around 5 to 6 hours with light meals and there was just a slight fading, I definitely feel it would go even longer. Anyway, I had to use a makeup remover at the end of the day to completely remove it. There was no feathering or bleeding, the colour stayed put without crossing any lines.
Fragrance: There’s not much of a scent except for a crayon like smell, nothing bothersome.
Packaging: The chubby pencil usually comes in a black cardboard outer cover where all the details are listed. The pencil itself comes in a matte black body with the base same color as the shade inside. The lid closes tightly thus avoiding any sort of mishaps in your vanity or anywhere else.
I totally love the shade and have to keep my makeup minimal as full attention will be drawn to my lips. It is suitable for most of the skin tones especially medium skin tones.
