Neutrogena Deep Clean Blackhead Eliminating Cooling Toner

Hello and Welcome to my first article on IMBB   :))

It’s extremely awesome to be in such esteemed company as you wonderful folks, who provide us with such thorough, comprehensive, and fun reads everyday! It’s my favourite place to visit as soon as I get online in the morning after the regular humdrum of life and thank you so much for having me on board 😀

Getting on to business, today, I’m reviewing the Neutrogena Deep Clean Blackhead Eliminating Cooling Toner, whew! It’s quite a mouthful, isn’t it!!

Neutrogena Deep Clean Blackhead Eliminating Cooling Toner

Well, before digging deeper into this particular product, I’d just like to share my heartfelt gladness about this brand. I’m totally a big, big fan, it has suited me so far; better than any other over-the-counter brands to such an extent that I have got almost the whole skincare range, from the sunscreen to the face wash, etc. Also, the prices are to die for the quality provided, I’d say better than brands like L’Oreal when it comes to daily use skin care products.

The toner, according to my knowledge is a relatively new launch in the Indian market along with the range of Retinol containing anti-ageing products which I’ve my eyes on.  I am just waiting for the current products to get over and then get my hands on those too!

It comes in a nice, sunny yellow and white-colored bottle of 200 ml. That’s like the standard quantity for toners these days I’m noticing (I used L’oreal Hydrafresh for combination skin before this, was same volume). It’s made in Korea; however, has everything explained in English as well. The consistency is same as water and so is the color.  The fragrance is quite fresh and pleasant and does not stay on the skin.

Price:
Rs. 340 at your favourite retail outlet; however, online at the wholesale price., its for Rs. 323.

Product Description:
Helps to effectively eliminate blackheads from the very first use and prevent new ones from forming, for clear & healthy looking skin!

  • Delivers instant cooling sensation, tightens pores, and soothes skin.
  • Blackhead Fighting Complex containing BHA to remove dead skin cells and control excessive oil. Cedarwood extract and moisturizer help strengthen the skin’s natural water and oil balance, and prevents new blackheads from forming with continuous use.
  • For best results, use together with other Blackhead Eliminating products.
  • Dermatologist tested, Oil free, Allergy tested, Non comedogenic.

Directions For Use:

Funnily enough, nothing is mentioned on the container in this regard. I guess they expect the consumers to be evolved or some such 😛 I use it the regular way, squeezing it out on a cotton ball and wiping all over face and neck in upward motion.

Active Ingredients:

W/W %: Salicylic Acid 0.5%

My Take on Neutrogena Deep Clean Blackhead Eliminating Cooling Toner:

I picked up this toner because of my obvious love and loyalty for the brand and it has lived up to my expectations as always!! Yayyy, but I must mention that I’m one of those annoying experimental consumers who always change products after the current ones get over just to see what’s new out there and somehow the horizon is just not in sight, I’m so glad for that 😀 I seriously believe that it helps in making the skin better rather than do anything adverse because there is no scope for product buildup and also because of the change, the efficacy of products does not get redundant, in other words, the skin does not get immune to them.

This toner is the third one in three months (I remember using Biotique cucumber water and L’oreal Hydrafresh before this) for me, and all the claims mentioned are so far true to the printed word. Due to age factors (27) and skin type (combination), enlarged pores and blackheads/whiteheads had really become the bane of my existence, but this miracle worker just came along and put everything back in place, sadly, it cannot reverse the clock, sigh!

Neutrogena Deep Clean Blackhead Eliminating Cooling Toner

However, all is not rosy as you will find out, here’s listing the pros and cons:

Pros of Neutrogena Deep Clean Blackhead Eliminating Cooling Toner:

  • Deep cleans and effectively helps the pore size (noncomedogenic).
  • Skin feels and looks clear, hydrated after applying (you should see my cotton ball and how much muck this helps to remove even after cleansing).
  • Soothing, which I think will be very helpful for ladies with sensitive skin or who tend to have redness on their cheeks.
  • Leaves behind a cooling sensation, I personally love it as it adds to the refreshing experience.
  • Consistency and fragrance are also very refreshing, smells mildly flowery and citric and does not annoy the nose.
  • Helps reduce blackheads/whiteheads; however, the point about preventing new ones from forming will be tested with time.
  • Price for the quantity and quality is very, very good, I’d say economical rather than affordable.
  • Contains BHA which is wayyyyy better than AHA for clearing blackheads and caring for the skin.  (This is something I learned thanks to IMBB from a post about the makeup artist Goss and his Youtube videos, so thanks again!!).
  • Contains Witch Hazel and Cedarwood extract which are well-known natural ingredients for any toner worth it’s salt (Again, I’ve read good reviews about these ingredients by IMBB members in various toner-related comments, thanks!).
  • Dermatologist tested, Oil free, Allergy tested, Noncomedogenic.

Cons of Neutrogena Deep Clean Blackhead Eliminating Cooling Toner:

  • Contains parabens.  I could figure out after reading the list of ingredients and checking about them on Wikipedia and Google.  (Personally, I feel that this is not a huge con, we tend to do more damage to our bodies by eating unhealthy and leading unhealthy lifestyles).
  • Contains alcohol which can be unsuitable to certain people, especially for those who do not purchase non-herbal products based on notional bad reputation of ingredients.
  • Allergy tested. This is a con as well as a pro because on the one hand it assures us that we can use it bindaas without worrying about allergies; however, on the other hand, the brand might be testing it on animals as there is no disclaimer about animal testing.
  • Price. When I say economical rather than affordable, I mean it’s worth the money you pay for it; however, it might not be pocket friendly for everyone.
Would I Buy Neutrogena Deep Clean Blackhead Eliminating Cooling Toner Again?

Finally, I’d repurchase this product for sure if I do not find a better one after this is over.

Rating:

I rate this a 4 on 5.

  1. Hi Shivangi, 🙂

  2. hey nice review. i am a little skeptical about using toners on my combination skin though i have used them many many times in the past. i have stopped currently but this one seems like a nice product. is it available in India?

    1. Hey Aru mine is a combination sensitive skin..my TBS teatree toner is doin wonders..u remember I was complanin about a pimple 2 days back..its almost gone now..thanx to my TBDS teatree facial wash n toner.. :yahoo:

      1. i do remember.. its almost gone ah? wow..such a relief na? :yahoo: :yahoo:

. i remember using the TBS toner at one point. I have recd very mixed opinions about whether a toner is a must. let me get back to it again. I do love the smell of tea tree oil.

    2. Hey Aru, it’s very much available in India. I bought it from Health & Glow on MG Road in Bangalore so I’m assuming it’ll be even more easily available at all the Neutrogena counters at various retail, beauty and medical outlets across the country. It’s also available online at the Indian beauty retail websites.
As for your next point, combination skin is very tricky to deal with as I’ve come to realize with mine. And because of that I follow the Cleansing Toning Moisturizing routine even more religiously than in my younger years as I’ve noticed that toners do have an added advantage of removing any residual makeup/ dirt and making the pores clean and normal sized. They cannot be made to disappear sadly but they can be maintained. Hope this helps, take care!

      1. thanks Preetha and Shivangi. TBS tea tree toner it is then. even the Dabur rose water broke me out for some reason and I have heard that is mild.

    1. Hey, thank you 🙂 They only had one toner in the market before this from the Fine Fairness range, seem to be expanding now.

  3. Hi Shivani, I guess after a long hiatus from Neutrogena, I will give this atry. I am always on a look out for products that keep blackheads ta bay. This should do the job! :))

  4. Welcome to IMBB Shivangi 🙂

i am very very glad that you posted this review! :happydance: :happydance: :happydance: :happydance: :happydance: i too watched the wayne goss video about blackheads a couple of days back and had been searching for some toner with BHA that’s available in india…had no luck! but this product appears to be just what i wanted! thank you!! :-* :-*

    1. Hey Tinkerbell…it’s so relieving to find products which are good, proven and locally available, even I watched the video and kinda almost jumped in the shop when I read the ingredients, he he, quite an over- reactor. Hope you like it and Thank you!

    1. Hey Srishi, thank you 🙂 It does not mention any specific skin type that this is good for on the container, just screams “Blackhead Eliminating”. I’ve combination skin so I can tell you only about my experience so far, which has been good bordering on great. Hope this helps!

    1. Hey, I’m sorry but I can only tell you about my experience and I’ve combination skin (oily T zone and large pores on the nose, sides of the nose, forehead and chin)…it’s been very effective for me. Hope this helps!

  6. Thank you Jomol 🙂 And I’m sorry to hear that!! Please let me know which non alcoholic toners work for you, I’d love to try some out, thanks!

  7. Hey Shivangi! 🙂
    Nice, detailed review! :thanks:
Unfortunately for me, most of the neutrogena products I have tried hav not suited my skin. So though this seems like a good product, m a bit wary of using this.

  8. Hey! Just read your review, it’s very detailed and well-written! Thanks! Just got 1 question, doe sit leave a sticky film behind after usage? Because I loathe that sticky feeling! I have tried Himalaya’s toner, the cucumber one, and that left a sticky film, been lying in the fridge ever since! So please let me know if this does the same! Thanks!

  9. hey… this is an excellent product… i have been using this regularly past 3 months.. n guess what?? no blackheads at all..!! its effect starts showing up in the first week itself… i ll give it 6 on 5.. 😉
