Nexxus Pro Mend Split End Binding Bodifying Mousse Review

Hey Guys,

I am trying to grow my hair out and plan on skipping haircuts and trims for the next few months. In the meantime, I needed something that would heal and conceal the split ends in my hair. I am a big fan of Nexxus’ ProMend Heat Protection Spray and decided to add some other products from the ProMend range to my hair styling routine.

Product Background and Description:

Nexxus is one of America’s leading salon hair care brands. It was founded over 30 years ago, in 1979, by father-son duo Jheri and Stephen Redding (who also created the brand Redken in 1960). Today, the company operates under a different owner and the Nexxus brand has grown to be synonymous with salon quality hair care.

Nexxus’ ProMend Split End Binding Bodifying Mousse (whew, the name is quite a mouthful) “is a revolutionary volumizing mousse that binds split ends back together during the styling process, allowing you to get a gorgeously full look every day.” It “repairs split end damaged strands for a gorgeously full look that lasts all day.”  The mousse is packaged in an aluminum can which looks very sleek and modern. It has a blue plastic cap and the pump to dispense out the mousse is made of plastic too. The Nexxus logo is featured prominently on the can.

My Experience with Nexxus Pro Mend Split End Binding Bodifying Mousse:

I have dry hair that splits easily. I use heat to style my hair on a daily basis now, which causes more split ends. To hide and fix these split ends, I picked two products from Nexxus’ ProMend line – this mousse and a leave-in cream. My hair isn’t thin, I would say it’s of medium thickness, but I have been losing a lot of hair from my crown ever since I got it permanently straightened (once in 2007 and another time in 2010, no plans for 2013!).

I decided it would be interesting to try the bodifying mousse, since I have never used a hair product that was bodifying or a mousse before.

Nexxus Mousse 3

I usually work the mousse into my hair when it’s wet along with a hair serum/oil and blow dry the hair straight with a large paddle brush. I then flat iron my hair just to smooth it out. The first thing that I noticed when using this product is how well it coats the strands. While blow drying, my hair feels thicker and I have to use a little more effort to pull it down and run the dryer over it.

Nexxus Mousse 5

After blow drying, my hair is noticeably thicker and shinier. The ends do look a little dry, but I have to look very carefully to find split ends. After running a flat iron through sections of my hair, it looks shiny, healthy, thick and with no split ends in sight. I haven’t seen my split ends “heal,” nor do I expect it. However, this mousse binds the ends giving the appearance of no splits in my hair.

Nexxus Mousse 4

The best part about this product is that it works for up to two days on me. My hair doesn’t go flat the next day after styling, nor does it go back to its old wavy self until I wet it. This, for me, was a big surprise as it completely eliminates the need for a hair spray or gel. A downside of the product is that it doesn’t smell very pleasant on my hair. It smells really good when I pump it out, but totally like dead fish while I am blow drying my hair! This smell, however, disappears pretty soon.  Another downside is that this product is not available in India. I looked on a couple of shopping websites too and couldn’t find it! Nexxus makes some really amazing hair products and it would be nice if they expand to India soon.

  1. Hey Devie ! Hugs!
Well now this one’s a teaser :X, I need something exactly like this for my hair as our hair quality seems too alike. I have a dry scalp too so for relief i go for regular hair spa sessions. I’ve to figure this out in khan market or smwhere.

    1. You don’t need this! Your hair is pretty thick from what I’ve seen, unless, of course, you burned some more of it off 😛 (I know I shouldn’t make fun of it, but I couldn’t resist 😀 ).

  2. 😛 , u can imagine what m going through, yesterday itself i went for a hairspa, this guy checked out those shredded little uneven patch of hair on my forehead (which i try cover keeping a side partitioned fringe) and said “mam do u have like many rats at ur place or smthing”
I am embarrassed to death and had no way out other that sharing the experience with him. Everyone bursted out in laughter.

    1. LMAO…I love the guy’s wry sense of humor 😛 I’d be scare of losing my job and just compliment you on the avant garde hair style (and score a big tip, too :P).

  3. I hate typos, they smtimes change the entire meaning of what u’re tryin explain. Oh yeah the , avant garde hair style, dsnt seem a bad idea too, smthing of a rockstar look 😉 hehehe

    1. Haha, you call them ‘typos,’ I call them MY very poor grammar 😛
Yup, rockstar 😀 gotta work what God, and at other times the stove, gives you!
