My Take on Nivea Hydro Care Lip Balm:

Its unbelievable how skin can change with a little transition within India.  I am currently in Himachal Pradesh and my skin has gone from oily and greasy to absolutely dry and flaky, which means as of now, I can say, I have very dry skin and can slather on any greasy goodies and my skin will soak it in.  I am amazed that all these years, staying in coastal areas of India, my skin had been labelled as oily, but now, with age, it can show drastic changes in even mild winters of Himachal.

Hydro Care

As for my lips, I never have chapped lips in Chennai, Mumbai or Pune, but here in Himachal, it is absolutely dry, cracked and I can count a hundred lines on my lips. To worsen the situation, I am having a perpetual cold and wheezing due to the pollen and fungus and molds around here since this is an open green area.

This is when I had to make an SOS call to my sister who has come down to meet us from OZ and I asked her to dig up all the lip balms she had and she had Nivea Hydro Care with her.  I have never heard or seen this in India (if its available, correct me) and I used it to save my lips from further “disintegration,” if I can use that word here. :silly:  I slathered it on every two hours literally and had to wake up in the middle of the night to reapply you know and so, I thought I must write a review on this one and share my experience amongst the rare Nivea lip balms that I own.

Please remember I write this review as a girl who lives in a hot and humid area and one who never has dry lips usually, but with this drastic change in climate from humid to dry and wintery, I have fallen into the “very dry skin and lips” category.  My experience may not hold true for many of you or perhaps even for myself once I go back to Chennai. But as of now, I am reviewing the lip balm in terms of what it is supposed to do, save dry and chapped lips, whichever part of the world it is in!

I have been using this since the past 10 days or so and I have to say that I am somewhere on the fence for this one.  I did not expect miracles as I could see that this is a light lip balm, not a thick and greasy one, which would coat the lips and would last you overnight.

Hydro Care

This is a light to medium lip balm. Absolutely colorless, not shiny, but has mild natural shine to it. I would say it’s not like I keep on dragging it over my lips, but thrice is enough to get a mild coat on the lips.  It feels very natural and light and more suited to day wear than night wear, having used it at night.  I must say it did not last overnight since I had cold and I had a tough time breathing and so the lips needed a thicker cover honestly. So, in that case, I think it is too light for very dry lips, but is good for mildly dry lips.

Last Word on Nivea Hydro Care Lip Balm:

It’s not a miraculous lip balm, but good and mild, natural-looking, colorless lip balm. It doesn’t transfer a thick coat on the lips, but gives a light to medium one, suited for dry to normal lips. Those who have severe chapped lips may need something thicker than this.
