Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Purifying Shampoo Review

Hello all,

Okay, so I have to admit that while strolling down the supermarket aisles, I always get drawn to the brand “Not your Mother’s” – one: because of the fun, quirky packaging and two: because of the name. Finally, my curiosity got the better of me and I picked up a shampoo and conditioner from this brand.

Not Your Mother's Clean Freak Purifying Shampoo

Not your Mother’s has 4 ranges of shampoos catering to different needs:

  • Way to grow – Long and Strong.
  • Kinky Moves – Curl Defining.
  • Beach Babe – Moisturizing.
  • Clean Freak – Purifying.

I got the Clean Freak shampoo and Way to Grow conditioner a few weeks ago and today I am reviewing the shampoo for you. Read on to find out more.

Price:
$7.00 for 8fl oz/237 ml. Prices may vary from store to store.

Product Description:
A shampoo that’s good for you, your hair and the environment… that’s what you want? Then get to squeezin’ because Clean Freak was made with you and Mother Nature in mind. This eco-friendly formula will cleanse hair without using harsh chemicals (no sulfates, silicones, parabens or dyes!). It’s biodegradable so it won’t clog your pipes (or your pores)! Infused with wild water mint extracts to revitalize stressed out hair and raspberry extracts to moisturize and soothe, you and your hair will be singing kumbaya as soon as you step out of the shower.

My Experience with Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Purifying Shampoo:

I have naturally thick and wavy hair. I have an oily scalp; my hair is not overtly oily, but it tends to get a bit greasy after 3-4 days of shampooing.

Packaging:  Not your Mother’s has some really cool packaging.  The shampoos come in a plastic squeezable tube with some funky colorful imagery on it which is really attractive. The Clean Freak range has green imagery on it. The cap shuts tight and there is no danger of any product leakage. But, the 8 fl oz tube is slightly bulky and not exactly travel friendly. They do not have any smaller travel-friendly sizes.

Fragrance: The shampoo has a mild fruity fragrance which I am quite neutral about. It is not overpowering and I believe those with sensitive noses will also not mind it. The fragrance does not stay in your hair and fades away during shampooing itself.

Performance: The shampoo is transparent in color and has a runny consistency. It is easy to apply andspreads wellthrough the hair.  It is a sulfate-free shampoo and hence it does not lather much. With lather, it is easy to tell when to stop applying more shampoo 🙂 But it becomes slightly difficult with a shampoo which does not lather. However, I don’t mind this as being sulfate-free, it’s good for your hair.

This shampoo cleans pretty effectively and removes all grease. It leaves you with a clean scalp and hair without making it oily or dry. I did not notice any aggravated hair fall after using this shampoo. However, my hair feels a bit tangled after using the shampoo. This is not a problem for me as I always follow up with a conditioner.

To summarize, this is a mild shampoo which effectively cleans your hair without making it dry or oily. It is free of sulfates and parabens and is therefore not harsh on your hair.

Pros of Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Purifying Shampoo:

  • Cleans the hair thoroughly.
  • Does not dry out the hair or make it frizzy.
  • Does not contain sulfates, parabens or dyes.
  • Has a mild fragrance.

Cons of Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Purifying Shampoo:

  • Shampoo on its own will leave you with tangled hair. You need to use conditioner as well.
  • Not exactly a con, but a word of caution to set your expectations right: This is a shampoo and it does just that – cleans your hair. It does not add any volume or texture or smoothen or curl or anything else which so many other shampoos promise you.
  • Slightly expensive compared to other drugstore brands.
  • Availability in India.

IMBB Rating:
4/5
