Make Your Own Nourishing Hair Oil At Home – Do It Yourself

Hope you all are doing well. Β After all the responses you showered on my previous posts, I am much inspired to share another home made recipe to enhance the beauty of your hair. Well, since the past one month, I have been trying to take good care of my hair as of late I have noticed that my hair has become very dull and frizzy as well, may be because of the change in weather. So, I have started using my homemade amla and methi oil to treat my hair. I have always been benefited by this oil and hope you will like it too πŸ™‚

Here are the things you will need to make this nourishing herbal hair oil:

β€’ One table-spoon dried amla (gooseberry) power or pieces.
β€’ Half tablespoon methi (fenugreek) powder.
β€’ One cup coconut oil.
β€’ A bowl to heat the mixture.
β€’ A strainer.

Procedure:

1. Take one tablespoon of dried amla pieces and half a tablespoon of methi powder. You can increase the quantity as required keeping it in the ratio 2:1, i.e., for two tablespoons of amla powder, take half the amount of methi powder.

Note: You can store this oil for up to two weeks, so the above mentioned quantity should be enough if you have medium length hair. For long hair, you can increase the quantity as required.

Use this oil once a week. Massage it gently on your scalp and wash it off after 30-45 minutes. Use a mild shampoo and conditioner. (You will notice better results if you warm the oil every time before you use it. It will help the oil to penetrate better into your scalp).

You can also use amla paste as a hair mask and wash it off after 30 minutes. You will see a visible reduction in hair loss. It will exfoliate your hair and due to it anti-bacterial properties, you will have dandruff free scalp as well.

Hope it helps you. Have a great day ahead!!

  1. Wow. .superb. .i vl try dis 4 sure. .well i hv strtd usng a mix of coconut oil, castor oil and lime juice for dandruff prblm. . .ths is also gud 4 hairfall

    1. yes Neha.. it stops hair fall as well.. I have seen my dad rinsing his hair with amla soaked water.. he found awesome results for hair loss problem.. πŸ™‚

    1. definitely Jomol.. u can add hibiscus flowers.. but then you cannot store the oil.. you can add the crushed flower petals every time you use this mixture πŸ™‚

  2. Wow so many good things…my hair will love it πŸ˜€ Will surely give it try…using lemon and almond oil recipe for now..
I wanted to know can we use this oil recipe and the amla hair mask one after another?
I guess it will help in making hair black too..then my aunt can use it too πŸ˜›

    1. its better if you do that in the consecutive day as your hair will be already oil, the mask will not do much work, but applying the oil after you have washed the mask can be done.. and for black hair, amla hair mask is the best option. Rinsing your hair with overnight soaked amla water also shows good results. I have seen my dad doing this a lot of time.. and it works πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

  3. if it is mixed with oil.. it won’t affect that much.. may be u can use it once in two weeks and leave it on for 15 mins.. I too have colored hair but did not see much changes.. but again my hair is not jet black originally.. but yes, if you use only alma powder as a hair mask it will effect your colored hair.. πŸ™‚

  4. oh that’s sad.. I have done this so many times while cooking. never mind keep trying πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ but anyways, hibiscus flower can always be used but cannot be stored.. and yes vitamin e oil capsules are a good option. i will also try that next time πŸ™‚

  5. Hey Amropali !

Really nice post! Could you just clarify certain things to me?

The oil with methi and dried amla is mainly for dull and frizzy hair problem alone? Or does it also help control dandruff and hair fall/breakage?

How do we make amla mask? And what does that help with – hair fall right? (going by ur previous replies).

I am getting married in 2 months, and I have terrible hair fall and hair breakage problem. Plus mine is pretty dry and frizzy hair naturally. I hope this does not accentuate that.

    Will definitely try this one!

    1. hi Priyanka first of all congratulations πŸ™‚

NOw, if you are suffering from hair loss, than amla mask would be the best remedy for you.. all you need to do it, take dried amla powder or dried amla segments, soak it overnight in a small quantity of water and than grind it into a paste(do not throw away the water in which you have soaked it, make the paste using that water only). leave it on for 15-20 mins and then wash it off followed with an oil massage later on. don’t keep the mask on for too long as it can make your scalp dry.

As for your the dullness you can use the above mentioned concoction of methi, amla and coconut oil. It is much effective for dandruff as well as hairfall. try it, you will definitely see good results.
