A big hello to all the amazing IMBBians out there!!! The product I would be reviewing today is “NYX Auto Eye Pencil” in the shade “Dark Brown.”

My Take on NYX Auto Dark Brown Eye Pencil:

I generally use black eyeliners, and really adore midnight blue, and turquoise ones as well. At times, when I want to go in for a really subtle look, I either opt for a light stroke of kajal, or a good dark brown eyeliner. So, in my search for a good dark brown eyeliner, I ended up buying this. Let’s find out whether this turned out to be a good decision!!

Packaging:  I really like it! It looks quite sleek, shiny and nice. When I first saw it, I thought I was sent an eye shadow pencil by mistake. It looks thick; a little elaborate for an eyeliner pencil. Once I opened it, I saw that the actual crayon was quite thin, and just like any other eye pencil. It is a black colored pen, with the small base in dark brown, quite sturdy and travel friendly. What I love the most about such kind of retractable pencils is that I don’t have to sharpen them! It is easy to handle this pencil and apply.

Texture:  It is really creamy and smooth. This pencil glides on so easily. No tugging and pulling required here. It is quite easy to draw and outline the eyes using this. I feel the texture is such that it would serve really well if used as an eye shadow, or base

Pigmentation/Performance:  Ok! Here comes the not-so-good part!!! I am not too fond it! If NYX claims that it is a dark brown shade, it SHOULD be dark brown!!!This is not…. I have seen darker shades of brown. It is a lovely shade though.  Pigmentation is a bit poor. In the hand swatch, it looks like a good dark brown (but not the darkest one). When I use it on my upper lash line, it does not show up too well! I do not have dark eyelids. But to make it visible, I have to swatch it so many times!!! At least 6-7 times! After doing this, the color comes somewhat close to dark brown!!It does not show upon the waterline!! But the good thing is that it causes absolutely no irritation even when applied on the waterline. On the lower lash line, it shows up a little better as compared to the upper lash line. But I have to swipe it many times to get that color.

The staying power is decent but not great. It is not smudgeproof. It won’t stay well on oily lids and in humid weather. It stays on my lids for 5 hours or so, but it keeps fading a bit. If I dab a tissue, or even run a finger over the lids, it comes off easily. I don’t know whether to call it waterproof, since it fades a LOT if water is splashed over eyes or a wet tissue is dabbed. But one good thing is that it does not become all runny and make eyes look scary – it simply fades. It stays better on the lower lash line. In dry weather, it stays on really well and for a longer period of time.

Pros of NYX Auto Dark Brown Eye Pencil:

• Affordable.
• Sleek, sturdy packaging.
• Smooth, creamy texture.
• Glides on easily.
• Safe for use on the waterline.
• Decent staying power on non-oily lids.
• Pretty color (if you don’t mind swiping it many times).

Cons of NYX Auto Dark Brown Eye Pencil:

• Poor pigmentation. Have to swipe many times to get a good color payoff (lot of product wastage here).
• Staying power isn’t really good on oily lids and in humid weather.
• Smudges easily.
• Fades easily.
• Not exactly waterproof.

Verdict:

This is a decent product and a pretty shade of brown. But I don’t think I would buy this again since it has quite a few cons. It won’t stay well on my lids in summer. I am not sure how the other shades from this range are, but would like to try out some.
