NYX Eyeshadow Base – Skin Tone Review, LOTD

Hello IMBB-ians, 🙂

Hope you guys had a good weekend… Mine was great cause I was out shopping and got myself a few more cosmetics. But this time I swear all were “necessities” 😛

The highlight of my this weekend’s shopping trip was a visit to the MAC store.. Errr… In Pune, it’s more line a counter. I was there looking for MAC Paint Pots as advised by IMBB . 🙂 But alas, the shades that I was looking i.e. Painterly and Soft Ochre, both were not available . 🙁 They were out of stock on both!!! They were even out of stock on MAC Lady Gaga lipstick. 🙁 So anyways, I did pick up something from there, which was my first ever MAC purchase but then that is for another post 😉

Now that I was looking for a good shadow base and the MAC paint pots weren’t available, my next option was NYX’s Eye Shadow Base… I got one in Skin Tone and I shall be reviewing it today. 🙂

NYX eye shadow base

The shade that I got myself i.e. Skin tone is self-describing and it really is in my skin’s tone! It looks like this:

The ingredients on the container is again evident in the pic:

I got this 7gms pot for Rs.625/-

I bought it cause everyone on the international beauty blogosphere was either using UDPP or this NYX base or MAC paint pots.

How did NYX Eyeshadow Base work for me?

Well, it is all creamy and it spreads really well on the lids… The shade of this base matched exactly to my skin and looked invisible once I had applied it on my lids.
The color of my shadow really enhanced when applied over this base. Take a look:

It prevented my shadow from smudging and running out but I did detect a bit of creasing… But in all fairness lemme tell you that I detected creasing after roaming in the sun at 12:30 pm for about 3-4 hours 🙂 I went shopping again you see 😛

It does have a fragrance that could be described as that of baby powder, but you can smell it only if you poke your nose into the container… The smell disappears when you actually apply it . 🙂

In all I did have a good experience with it, though I would first like to try out the MAC paint pots for a direct comparison… I dunno but I have this feeling that I might just like the MAC paint pots a tad bit more 🙂  Though I must say that I have no complaints from the NYX base as well. 🙂

Let me summarize into PROs and CONS…

PROs of NYX Eyeshadow Base

  • Very easy to blend
  • This shade merges into my complexion completely.
  • My shadows look really pigmented when applied on the base.
  • Doesn’t smudge my shadow.
  • Very little creasing but then I do have super oily lids
  • OK OK priced
  • It is hypoallergenic
  • Cruelty free (for Cali especially 🙂 )
  • Virtually odorless

CONs of NYX Eyeshadow Base

  • Limited shades. I could swatch only skin tone and white!

Will I buy it again?
Hmmmm… I’ll try the MAC paint pots first (just out of curiosity) 🙂

Btw, here is a look I did using the NYX base under the highlighter shade that’s provided with L’Oreal Quad Pro in Dark Eyes.
