NYX High Voltage Lipstick – Sweet 16 Review

Here I am reviewing one more lipstick from my NYX haul; this is the NYX High Voltage lipstick in the shade Sweet 16. Read on to find out if I liked it or not.

My Experience with NYX High Voltage Lipstick – Sweet 16:

Packaging:  This lipstick comes in a sleek narrow plastic packaging. The bottom half of the tube is black and the top half is the same color as the lipstick itself. This is a good way to identify the lipstick if you own more of them. The name of the lipstick is printed on the side of the black bottom half. The packaging is nothing very special but it is effective.

Shade/Pigmentation:  Sweet 16 is a medium pink shade. It is not too bright but will suit only fair to medium skin tones. I do not think it will look good on darker skin tones. The shade looks much darker in the tube but comes off lighter on the lips.  The pigmentation of the lipstick is a disappointment for me. Since NYX mentions that it is an extremely pigmented lipstick, I was expecting it to be much more opaque in a single swipe. But unfortunately, my lip color kept peeping through this lipstick in a single swipe. It is definitely not recommended for pigmented lips and definitely not what I expected from a lipstick range which is named “High Voltage.” Multiple swipes made the lipstick look patchy in places.

Texture/Finish/Pigmentation:  The texture of the lipstick is very creamy. In fact so creamy that I fear that it will melt away if I carry it in my bag on a hot summer day. It glides like butter on the lips and feels quite moisturizing. It does not feel drying over time. I did not find the need to use a lip balm underneath, but NYX mentions to prep the lips with a lip primer prior to the application or maybe they are just advertising their lip primer 😛

The finish is somewhere in between a matte and a glossy finish and it looks very nice and natural on the lips.

The staying power of the lipstick is average – it stays put for around 3-4 hours. It transfers to cups and glasses and does not survive a full meal. Since this is a light shade, it does not leave behind any stain.

To summarize, NYX High Voltage lipstick in shade Sweet 16 is a lovely pink shade with a nice creamy formula. But the pigmentation and lasting power is nothing to write home about and left me quite disappointed 🙁

Pros of NYX High Voltage Lipstick – Sweet 16:

• Beautiful light pink shade.
• Creamy texture glides easily on the lips.
• Doesn’t feel drying on the lips.
• Quite affordable.

Cons of NYX High Voltage Lipstick – Sweet 16:

• Shade will not suit darker skin tones.
• Pigmentation of this shade is not strong.
• Multiple swipes make the finish patchy.
• Average staying power.

Would I Repurchase NYX High Voltage Lipstick – Sweet 16?
Probably not, unless you are looking out for exactly this shade of pink. It is not expensive so you will not end up burning any holes in your wallet, but I am sure you can find better lipsticks in the market. I would not repurchase as I did not like the pigmentation.
