NYX Loose Powder- Transparent Light Review

Hi ladies!
Today I am going to review NYX loose powder in shade Transparent Light.

NYX loose powder

I had been wanting to try out a loose powder for quite sometime now, but currently I am staying in a small town where we hardly have any proper branded cosmetic shops (there is a shop which sells“MAC” and “bobby brown” for 300 bucks!…fake stuff ofcourse!!)
So the next best thing I could do was to order it online. One of the online shopping sites had a free gift scheme running so I got a jar of fab india under eye aloe vera gel free with it!! :yahoo:

Now here’s the review

It comes in a small light weight plastic jar. I have absolutely no qualms about the packaging. It’s sturdy.

MRP: Rs 1100 (got it on discount for Rs 880) for 15g of product

Shelf life: 3yrs

Talc, Aluminium Starch Octenyl Succinate, Kaolin, Methylparaben, Butylparaben, Silica/ Methicone, Triethylhexanoin, Polyglyceryl-2 Triisostearate, Methicone, and Fragrance. MAY CONTAIN: Mica (CI 77019), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), D&C Red No.7 (CI 15850:1), D&C Red No.6 (CI 15850), Red Iron Oxides (CI 77491), Black Iron Oxides (CI 77499), or Manganese Violet (CI 77742).

It comes in 18 shades (according to the nyx website http://www.nyxcosmetics.com/products/face/powder/loose-face-powder), but I am not sure about availability of different shades in india.

I got the shade “transparent light”. Fortunately the shade blends into my skin flawlessly!

NYX loose powder

The jar was properly sealed when it arrived. Inside, there are 2 compartments. In the top one, there’s a snugly fitted powder puff, which keeps the powder packed inside. The small pores over the bottom compartment, which contains the powder, are kept sealed with a sticker initially, to prevent any mess. I did not throw away the sticker as it might come in handy if I need to travel with the powder.

NYX loose powder

The powder is very fine, and soft and silky in texture. It contains spf 10 and blends into the skin smoothly. It doesn’t give any coverage (because it’s transparent) and I don’t mind that.

Loose powder by NYX

It gives a dewy finish, which is where I got a bit disappointed with it. My skin is very oily and I stay in a hot and humid area, because of which, I wanted a mattifying powder. This one contains SPF which might be the reason for the dewy finish. So I still have to keep blotting my face with oil absorbing sheets after a couple of hours of applying this.

It sets the makeup nicely though. Once my concealer stayed put for around 5-6 hrs, whereas another day when I was sweating too much in the heat and humidity, the concealer got washed off within 2-3 hrs.

Let me list the pros and cons now

• Very fine and silky powder
• Blends very well
• Lot’s of shades to choose from
• Sets the makeup well
• Contains SPF 10
• Very light fragrance which goes off in a few minutes
• Never gets cakey
• Good quantity of product

• Contains talc (I am not sure why, but some people don’t like talc in their powders)
• Really expensive in india (Rs 1100 ≈ $22!!!! even TBS is much cheaper than that. This powder costs only $12-14 in the US)
• Contains parabens (I am not much concerned about that either)
• May not work well in hot and humid conditions
• Doesn’t mattify the face (this may be a pro for the normal or dry skinned beauties)

You can consider purchasing this if:

• You spend most of your time away from heat and humidity
• You like dewy finish
• You have dry or normal skin
• You are oily skinned but don’t mind blotting your face frequently (because the powder won’t help much)
• You are buying it abroad(since it’s much cheaper out of india) or if you have a lot of money lying around, you can buy it in india too! 😛 😛

My Rating: 3.5/5

Will repurchase?
No, I want a mattifying powder and this is just not what I had in mind!

  1. I wanted to the pink shimmer one but didnt buy sfter seeing the quantity, its very less, if u see the lakme rose powder is much better , it gives 40 gms for 100 rs and it givesme matte look to me and also my frnd who has very oily skin! anyways nice review hows the cucumber gel???

    1. but wouldn’t the pink powders make you look too pink? ?:) ?:) i wouldn’t mind if it mattifies though. anything is acceptable for a matte skin! :stars: :stars:
it’s not cucumber gel :hihi: it’s aloe vera under eye gel. it’s already been reviewed on imbb :snicker:

  2. hmmmm..even I want to have mattifying powders for my oily-combination skin..so would give it a pass.. 🙂 Nice review!! :)) :waytogo: :waytogo: :waytogo: :waytogo:

  4. hmm…i dont have much money lying around so ‘ll give this a pass.  m happy eith my lakme compact n loose powder :shy: :shy: :shy:

nice review tinker

  5. I only look for powders to keep the shine away. And I run around a lot. In humid and bad weather. :idk:
    So…not for me. :nababana:
I read the part about the MAc and Bobbi Brown stuff for 300 and I went, ” :hihi: :hihi: ” and then, ” 🙄 🙄 ”
Because there’s one shop I know that sells fake MAC products. :nonono: :nonono:

    1. you know pragnya, such fake macs n bobby browns n nars n god knows what else are also sold on ebay (n they are priced as much or more than the original prices)…i had read an article on that, that’s why it’s best to buy such branded stuff from reputed n well known stores. :haanji: :haanji: :haanji:

      1. Higher prices also?!  Such datty cheaters deserve :hunterwali: :hunterwali: and :spank: :spank:

Ab toh I’ll be verrryyy careful and by only from the actual stores. :tremble: :tremble:

  6. for mattifying i would suggest to go for kryolan anti shin powder..it will probably cost u 800 bucks but with the quantity it should go on for yrs 😉 also their loose powder is pretty decent..

  7. Dewy finish? :woot: :woot: Bas! :yahoo: :yahoo: I’m sold already. This will be my first loose powder ever. 😀 Now, if only I can convince myself to spend so much on a cosmetic product when I can use the same money to buy 2-3 huge cheesecakes. :struggle: :struggle:

    1. I’ve been wise enough not to compare my desserts with my makeup. 😐
If I did….Let’s just say I’d be rich. Very rich. Most probably because I’d guilt-trip myself into being impartial and more careful. :silly: :silly:

    2. lol! try ordering from nyx site or some other online shopping site…they usually sell for 11-12 dollars. then u can save enuf for 2 SMALL cheese cakes   😉
