Sometimes, I get obsessed with one particular color and hunt every possible shade of that lipstick until I am satisfied. When I walk down the aisles of makeup, that’s the only color that draws my attention. No matter how many other beautiful shades are available, my eyes see only what my heart is attracted to! Does this happen to you? Lately, I am obsessed with pinks. It started innocently with MAC Speak Louder until I saw MAC Flat Out Fabulous. Now, I am obsessed with dark pinks, brighter shades, which make your face look brighter. One such find was the Sonia Kashuk Raspberry nude lip crayon – it’s the best color for summers! But like any other makeup addict (ahem! fanatic is perhaps the right word), I couldn’t stop at that. I have a couple of NYX Matte lip creams and I wanted to buy of them as they are lighter on the lips, which is perfect for summer where you don’t want heavy makeup but still require a great-looking lipstick to make you look amazing. So, that’s why I picked up “Prague” from the Soft Matte range.
Now available in twelve more statement-making shades, our velvety smooth Soft Matte Lip Cream delivers a burst of creamy color and sets to a stunning matte finish. Surprisingly durable, lightweight and delightfully creamy, it’s no wonder this sweetly scented formula is a NYX fan favorite.
My Experience with NYX Prague Soft Matte Lip Cream:
I knew I wasn’t hallucinating when I thought NYX Prague is not as dry as the other NYX Soft Matte lip creams. I checked the website for the ingredients and found that the ingredients are actually different for NYX Prague and Amsterdam shades when compared with others. So, it’s slightly better than other shades like Ibiza, Abu Dhabi, and Addis Ababa. The NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream does have a sweet smell, which isn’t overpowering. I had to almost dunk my nose in the tube to get a strong whiff of the scent. For someone who’s not blessed with a sensitive nose, the smell isn’t a great bother. However, if you hate sweet-smelling lipsticks, then you have to know that the smell lingers a little while after you apply the lip cream.
When I bought this shade, I thought it could be a dupe for MAC Flat Out Fabulous, but it’s not. I did a comparison and it’s a slightly darker shade than MAC Flat Out Fabulous or even Sugar Cosmetics Mary Poppins.
If you look at the swatches, there’s hardly any difference between a single swipe and multiple swipes. Since this shade is pigmented quite a lot, sometimes a single swipe is enough to give a good color. However, if you have pigmented lips, then you have to use multiple swipes to get full color coverage.
As far as the color is considered, it’s a beautiful violet-pink, which looks great on us Indian girls. One of the reasons I love these NYX matte lip creams is that because once they are set, you don’t feel you are wearing any lipstick. They are pretty light on the lips. This particular shade, “Prague” is not so drying, neither is it hydrating. Like any other matte lipstick, do not even think of wearing it on chapped lips. It will accentuate all your flaws!!! Exfoliated and well moisturized lips are a must for any of the NYX Matte lip creams.
Once applied, it takes around 4-5 minutes for the lip cream to settle on your lips and become matte. If you are in a hurry and God forbid you touch your lips before it become matte, then it can easily spread away and ruin your pretty face 😛 Patience is a virtue while using the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream.
Although matte, this shade is not long lasting. It lasts only a few hours and you need to touch up after snack or meal breaks. What I do like about this shade is even though a little dark, it’s not that bold that you cannot wear to office. I can definitely wear this shade to work and still not attract a crowd, if you know what I mean. NYX website describes this color as Matte Merlot. If I go by the Merlot that I know which is a variety of red wine, I wonder why it’s named after the dark red wine. It’s nowhere close to a wine red color. If you are expecting a wine red color, based on the name of the shade, then you are in for a major disappointment.
The applicator is wonderful for my full lips and it’s easy to apply this lip cream. For women with thin lips, the application can be a little thick at times. One problem that I have noticed with the applicator or maybe the texture of the lip cream is that sometimes when you dip the wand in the lip cream, too much of the product can get stuck to the applicator sponge. That way, you might end up using a lot of product unnecessarily. If you try to wipe off the excess at the edge of the bottle, it might be too little. This could be my own incompetence, but I find the applicator sponge a little unpredictable.
Overall, I like NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in the shade “Prague” as a wonderful dark pink, with violet tones color that suits medium to dusky skin tones.

Would I Repurchase/Recommend NYX Prague Soft Matte Lip Cream?
Not just this, but in general, I recommend trying out the NYX Soft Matte lip creams. They are perfect for day wear and summers too. If you have extremely dry lips and do not tend to find the formula suitable, then you might want to try the Prague shade as it’s slightly less drying than other shades in the line.
