NYX Retractable Lip Liner Deep Red Review

I recently purchased three lip liners from Nyx to use with my lipsticks. As I have pigmented lips and no definite lip line, lip liners are a must for me. Today, I will be reviewing the shade “Deep Red”. Read on to know more about it.

My Experience with NYX Retractable Lip Liner Deep Red:

Packaging: The product comes in a twist-up slender plastic pen. The whole pencil is colored and represents the color of the liner. It is super easy to spot the pencil in your stash. The packaging is sleek, simple and user-friendly.

Shade: “Deep red” is a true deep red shade with a hint of pink and brown in it. It suits all skin tone and will work with most of your red lipstick. While it will completely blend in your deep red lipsticks, it will create a deeper shade in the edges for your lighter red lip colors. But then again, it will create an ombre effect which looks pretty cool.

Texture and Application: The pencil is super soft and creamy. This is a good thing and a bad thing at the same time. Being soft, it applies really well and blends out perfectly. However, it often breaks, which leads to loss of product. I bring out a tiny amount of product and if that breaks, I smudge it out on the lips.

Pigmentation and Coverage: The pencil is pigmented but the coverage varies depending on your lip condition. If your lip is super soft and smooth, it will cover everything. For heavily pigmented lips, it takes more than one layer. Now, layering often makes the lips cry and then the lip liner starts crumbling. I clicked the pictures on a day when my lip was feeling a little dry. It started becoming crumbly and I could not cover my entire lips properly. Among the three I have, working with this one is the toughest. As you will see in the swatches, I could not cover my whole pigmented lips with this. It had a few areas uncovered and was clinging to some dry patches.

Staying Power: as it makes the lips dry and crumbly; I do not wear it alone. I tried using it with a gloss on top once and it lasted for 3-4 hours. When I use it just to line the lips along with a lipstick to fill in the lips, it stays for long and also survives meals. I will suggest you not to wear it alone if you have dry lips as it will cling on to the dry patches and look bad.

Overall, I am not super happy with the liner pencil. It is an okayish product that is good for lining the lips. But, I cannot use it to fill in the lips.
