NYX Rouge Cream Blush – Tickled Review

Hi guys! I picked this up online after having great success with another cream blush from the same range, the NYX Cream Blush in Orange. The swatches blew me away. But did the product too? Let’s have a look.

My Experience with NYX Rouge Cream Blush – Tickled:

Packaging: The blush comes in a black round plastic container with a see-through lid, which clicks shut and open. The packaging is very minimal and travel-friendly. I have not had this open accidentally while traveling. It has 3.5 g of product

Shade: The shade is CB 13 Tickled. The shade is described on their website as shimmering peachy pink. I would agree with this, but the only thing they forgot to add is it has a golden undertone. There are gold specks running through this which become apparent when applied. This blush gives a lit-from-within look. The gold specks really catch the light beautifully. It is basically a highlighter and a blush, but for me, it is a highlighter alone.

Pigmentation:   I have tried using it as a cream eyeshadow, a blush and a lipstick. On the eyes, it looks very pretty as a wash of colour, but I have to build it up to make it show. It is the same as when I use it as blush; I have to build multiple layers for it to show up. As lipstick, only the gold particles show through.

How I like to use it: I think for me, I prefer using this as a highlighter, rather than as blush or cream eyeshadow. I usually pat it on top of my regular blush (NYX blush in Orange) just on the highest points on the cheeks. Then I set all of it with a powder.

Staying power: I just pulled it out again to write about this for the review and I applied the blush a little too heavily on one cheek and tried blended it out. It was still a bit too much. So I worked on my other cheek and when I came back to the original cheek, there was nothing there! This is the weirdest experience for me with this blush!  If I don’t set this blush with powder or with makeup mist, then it disappears within the hour for me. I actually have combination skin, with normal to dry skin on my cheeks. This is also another aspect I am not a fan of.

Consistency: The consistency of the blush is very soft and very creamy. It blends out like a dream. A little too well actually! 😛  The heat of the fingers helps it to blend out very well. But I recommend a stippling brush or a blush brush with this one.

Who will it suit best? When blended, it looks very beautiful, and will suit a wide range of skin tones. I think it will work best for fair skinned ladies as a blush. For tan or dark skin, it takes a bit of work to get it to show up, so I recommend it as highlighter. I do understand you don’t need as much pigment for a cream blush as opposed to a powder blush (I do have their powder blush as well), but I still want enough pigment for it to show up in one or two layers, rather than multiple layers.

It is weird that in the same product range, there is so much variation in pigmentation. NYX Orange blush in the same range has much more pigmentation than this one does. Other aspects of the 2 blushes are exactly the same though.

Not really, pigmentation and staying power are paramount to me, otherwise it is not worth your hard-earned money.
