NYX Siren Matte Lipstick Review

By Orianna Jessica Dcruz

Hello, everyone!

Today I will be reviewing one of the shades from NYX’s Matte Lipstick range; this shade is known as Siren. This range isn’t as well-known as their Soft Matte Lip Cream range but it seems that this range has been underrated so far!

Price: $6
Product Description:
Load your lips with plush, pigment-rich color choosing from 12 brand new shades of Matte Lipstick—our shockingly smooth lip color that glides right on and stays in place with a silky matte finish that never feels dry. Now available in a range of fresh new hues, these playful pops of color are just what your spring wardrobe needs!

My Experience with NYX Siren Matte Lipstick:

So the packaging is rather standard. It’s a twist up tube with a black plastic body. There’s a strip of transparent plastic that shows the colour of the lipstick, which could make spotting the desired shade in your vanity easier. It seems to be made of cheap plastic which may bother some people. Considering NYX is not a high-end brand I don’t have any issues with the packaging.

Siren is a described as a deep violet on their website and it is exactly that, except it also has some metallic sheen to it. The metallic sheen seems golden-ish when applied on the lips but it’s barely noticeable. The lipstick in the tube simply looks like a deep metallic violet. This colour would suit all skin tones as long as you dare to wear a bold shade.

Despite being a matte lipstick it glides effortlessly on the lips. The lipstick itself is very creamy but I would not categorise this as a ‘matte’. Even if you give it some time to dry this would still be a soft matte lipstick at best. The formula is surprisingly not drying at all, as you expect from most matte lipsticks. In fact, it’s so creamy that it’s almost moisturising. The pigmentation is really strong and it goes opaque in a single swipe.

You may need a lip liner under this as the lipstick tube can cause the lipstick to spread outside the lip lines sometimes. The lipstick itself is super creamy, which is great for application, but if you leave it in your purse and travel in the heat, it could melt a little bit.

The staying power is average as it lasts 4-5 hours with light meals. The lipstick definitely transfers but fades evenly. It also leaves a pinkish purple stain the lips after fading. Thankfully it does not feather or bleed or make my lips dry which could cause it to flake. It’s so smooth that you could get away without a lip balm under it.

Pros of NYX Siren Matte Lipstick:

• Gorgeous colour
• Strong pigmentation
• Decent staying power
• Absolutely non-drying formula

Cons of NYX Siren Matte Lipstick:

• Might melt in the heat
• Not exactly a matte lipstick

IMBB Rating: 4/5
Summary: All in all, there aren’t so many flaws with the product that I cannot overlook. I love the colour and the formula especially because of how hydrating it is. My tube did melt a little bit on the inside but I think the product is still worth buying!
