Here’s my review on the shade “Buenos Aires” from NYX’s Soft Matte Lip Cream.
NYX Professional Makeup Soft Matte Lip Cream straddles the line between lipstick and gloss!
• Creamy, lustrous formula applies like silk
• Soft matte finish exudes a sensual glow
• Unique innovative texture adds the perfect polish to any look
My Experience with NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream Buenos Aires:
Packaging: I love the color-coordinated tube which helps distinguish the shade right off the bat. The shade name is mentioned via a sticker on the bottom of the tube.
Applicator: The wand is short and precise. It is a double-sided doe foot wand, so it picks up enough product for you to coat your entire lips with a single dip using both sides.
Shade: “Buenos Aires” is described as a soft coral. It is a very pastel coral orange which can be difficult to wear. It will suit very pale to light skin tones and on me with my light-medium skin tone, I can just about pull it off. This is beautiful color if you want to create an ombre look on your lips with a darker outline fading into lighter shade inside. It does apply a little streaky, which I have experienced with other lighter/pastel shades like this from the line and it takes about 2-3 coats to help it look seamless but it is doable. The pigmentation is not as opaque as I would like but it is buildable without feeing too heavy on the lips.
Texture and Feel: The texture of these lip creams is quite pleasing. These lip creams feel featherlight on the lips, almost like a hybrid of a mousse and a cream which sets to a soft and matte look as it dries. When I wear this, I totally forget the fact that I have something on my lips.
Pigmentation: While all shades I own have good pigmentation, I have noticed that some apply streakier and dry patchier than others. I have found that the shades on the lightest end (some of the n*des and pastel shades) and the darkest end of the spectrum ( some vampy shades and unconventional shades etc) from their range can be streaky and it can get very difficult to make them look even even with multiple coats. Most of the shades in the middle( pinks, reds , browns etc) perform fantastic.
Staying Power: This particular shade stays on for 4-5 hours before starting to fade away. It does not survive well through snacking and it is mandatory for me to reapply after a full meal as there is no hint of it left behind.
Overall, I am impressed with this product and with this range, especially considering the super affordable price tag, but I would urge you to read reviews for the shades you are eyeing as the performance is not consistent across the board for all shades.
As for this particular shade, I like it but I do not love it. The lack of pigmentation and streakiness does put me off, but for a shade as pretty as this, I am willing to work around it. It’s quite a unique shade but it does take some effort to make it wearable. If you fall into the “pale- fair” skin tone categories, “Buenos Aires” would be a good shade to try. I will recommend it.
