Here’s another shade from my recent NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream haul – I am reviewing the shade “Cairo” in this post.
NYX Professional Makeup Soft Matte Lip Cream straddles the line between lipstick and gloss!
• Creamy, lustrous formula applies like silk
• Soft matte finish exudes a sensual glow
• Unique innovative texture adds the perfect polish to any look.
My Experience with NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream Cairo:
Packaging: I love the color-coordinated tube which helps in distinguishing the shade right off the bat. The shade name is mentioned via a sticker at the bottom of the tube.
Applicator: The wand is short and precise. It is a double-sided, doe-foot wand, so it picks up enough product for you to coat your entire lips with a single dip using both sides.
Shade: “Cairo” is described as a matte, clean, n*de color. I am just going to get to the point- I despise this shade, I don’t know why I bought it and I don’t know why I still have it (makeup addict problems :P). It looks absolutely worst on my lips, I wouldn’t dare wear it outside the confines of my house. It makes my lips look ghostly white and disappears into my face, making me look like a zombie. This shade for some reason accentuated every line on my lip, make them look wrinkly, parched and dry like I have been stranded in the Egyptian desert (hence the name “Cairo” I think lol :P).
Texture and Feel: Overall, the texture of this lip cream is quite pleasing. These lip creams feel featherlight on the lips, almost like a hybrid of a mousse and a cream which sets to a soft matte look as it dries. When I wear these lip creams, I totally forget the fact that I have something on my lips. This particular shade, Cairo, while it didn’t feel dry on the lips as much as it made them look dry and parched, it maybe due to this shade being unflattering.
Pigmentation: While all shades I own have good pigmentation, I have noticed that some apply streakier and dry patchier than others. I have found that the shades on the lightest end (some of the n*des and pastel shades) and the darkest end of the spectrum (some vampy shades and unconventional shades etc) from their range can be streaky and it can get very difficult to make them look even even with multiple coats. Most of the shades in the middle (pinks, reds etc) perform fantastic. “Cairo” applied quite streakily and patchy in one coat. It was difficult to get it even and to look good. I could see hints of my natural pink lip color breaking through which is not what you want in a n*de lip color.
Staying Power: This particular shade wore for 4 hours before starting to fade away and did not survive eating and drinking..
Overall, I am impressed with this range, especially considering the super affordable price tag, but I would urge you to read reviews for the shades you are eyeing as the performance is not consistent across the board for all shades.
As for this particular shade, “Cairo,” unless you are a very pale girl, it is going to be very difficult to make this shade work and also the performance is poor. There are many better options out there if you are looking for a good n*de lip color.
