My Experience with NYX Soho Glam Collection (S116):
The Soho Glam collection comes in a black cardboard box with thin thermo coal lining inside in order to protect the main product. The back of the cardboard box contains a detailed diagram describing the functionalities of all the colours inside. I didn’t quite understand the face colour indicator as I would never use such dark colours on my face. The main product is a very hard and sturdy plastic box which is black in colour.
This box opens up like a book, to display 48 beautiful eye shadows, and a large high quality mirror on the other side. The eye shadows are protected with a transparent sturdy plastic sheet. The eye shadow tray slides open to display 6 more eye shadows, 2 lip glosses, 1 lip liner, 2 dual-ended sponge applicators and one small brush. The lower part of the box opens up another tray containing 4 blushes and 8 lip colours. The packaging is very beautiful and impressive. It is definitely travel friendly and not very easily breakable. The trays also don’t open up so easily such that it might be a problem to be carried. It also has an ‘animal cruelty free’ logo, which is a thumbs up!
Although there are 52 eye shadows, I found that a few shades are repeated. Also there are some shades which are both in matte as well as in shimmer. The eye shadows are not very pigmented. They need to be built up a lot. The swatches in the pictures speak for themselves. Quite a few eyehadows are so light that they don’t even seem to appear on the skin. These are the kind of eye shadows that require primers to really pop. There is a good mix of matte as well as shimmer shades; cool and warm tones.
The lip colours are more like sheer lip balms. Like the eye shadows, they are not very pigmented, but are easily buildable. There are 8 shades consisting of nudes, pinks, peaches, purples, etc. The lip glosses are also not very high performance. The first lip gloss is nude with a slight hint of champagne. The second lip gloss is an ever so slight peach. The lip glosses are not very good quality as I broke my wand in the very first use. The amount of product that dispenses off is too little, and I have to keep dipping my wand in it, thus causing breakage.
The lip liner is an amazing coral lip liner which is so creamy, yet it does not use much product while applying. It glides beautifully on the lips and can be filled in for a beautiful coral look.
The blushes are my most favorite part of this collection. Unlike the eye shadows, they are very highly pigmented. They apply so beautifully on the cheeks. There are 4 beautiful shades – the first one being a subtle peach; the second one is a baby pink, followed by a brown – more like a bronzer, and lastly a bright pink. These blushes are so easily bendable, and they suit most of the skin tones.
I think all makeup manufacturers should really stop giving tools along with the makeup boxes/palettes, because most of these sets have such low quality tools which I find completely useless. The brush that is provided is not very soft. It does not even pick up enough product. Even the dual ended sponge applicators don’t do a good job. It is just a superficial addition to the collection.
Pros of NYX Soho Glam Collection (S116):
- Sturdy packaging.
- Large mirror – very handy.
- All in one collection.
- Blushes are top notch.
- Great lip liner.
- Travel friendly.
- Animal cruelty free.
Cons of NYX Soho Glam Collection (S116):
- Eye shadows are very less pigmented.
- Lip colours are not very useful.
- Unnecessary tools.
- The tray opens with difficulty. The eye shadows below usually get dented.
Final Verdict: This is not the first boxed collection I owned by NYX. The All I’ve Ever Wanted Box is one of my favorites. So after using that, I had my hopes pretty high, but only to be a little disappointed. The eye shadow colour payoff is not all that great and since many shades are repeated, I didn’t see much variety. The All I’ve Ever Wanted Box is of the same price, but it gives better value.
Would I recommend NYX Soho Glam Collection (S116)?
I would recommend this only if you find it on a huge sale or promotion. If not, I’d rather you guys pick up the All I’ve Ever Wanted Box.
