NYX Stay Matte But Not Flat Foundation Review

Nyx Matte but not flat liquid foundation – Caramel SMF 10

Helloooo beauties…..First of all how amazing is the weather these days in Delhi! It’s raining as I write this and the view and the baarish are making me so happy and cheerful. The product that I’m reviewing does none of those things to me though. I’ll be reviewing the NYX Stay Matte But Not Flat Foundation.

Why Nyx why? How could you get a product so wrong? I got this foundation about a month ago and I have to say I haven’t been this disappointed in a foundation for ages. Read on to know why.
Here’s what the NYX website has to say about the foundation:
Stay Matte But Not Flat Liquid Foundation provides full coverage with a mineral enriched matte finish. The oil-free and water-based formula is perfect whether you are in the studio or out and about all day!
The packaging: The foundation comes in a see through, matte to the touch tube with a screw cap (no pump). There’s nothing extraordinary about the packaging. The foundation comes in 20 shades which is amazing and you are guaranteed to find your shade. You get 35 g of product which is plenty.

My take on NYX Stay Matte But Not Flat Foundation

Let me cut straight to the chase. I did not like this foundation. The consistency is not too liquidy/runny or too thick which is good. I have the shade Caramel and even though it looked like the perfect match for me, I was proved wrong and you’ll know why. First off, when you say the words “water based & oil-free” about a foundation, you expect the product to be matte, non-greasy and extremely light on the skin. Well, MBNF is none of those things. If anything, it makes the skin appear oily right after application instead of leaving the face with a touch of dewyness. I keep trying to blend it in to get rid of the oily look but alas! I know its “Matte but not flat” but still, it doesn’t fulfill the “Matte” claims at all.

Secondly, it sinks into the pores as a result of which you have magnified pores. After about 2 hours of application, I start looking like I have had an oil massage and forgot to wash my face afterwards. A pressed powder can only do so much with this foundation. I apply pressed powder and the shine is concealed for about an hour after which it comes right back. The coverage is light to medium and I personally like the way it covers the pigmentation I have on my cheeks. Nyx have also claimed that the foundation stays put all day but it only hangs on for about 5-6 hours and starts to fade. If you’re likely to go out on a sunny day wearing this, it will start melting off your face. I have tried over and over again to work with this product but it gives the same result each time which sadly eliminates the possibility of a coincidence.

A very important thing to know with this foundation is that it oxidises the moment it comes in contact with facial oil and turns darker. If you do choose to buy this product, please buy a shade lighter so it oxidises to your perfect shade.

Quite contrary to the name, I would recommend this foundation only to girls with very dry skin and beg of oily/combination skinned beauties to stay far far away from it.

Would I buy NYX Stay Matte But Not Flat Foundation again?

No. I have combination skin and this foundation only increases the oiliness on my face.
