I bought a couple of new products from NYX, so let’s get started with the reviews now. Today, I am reviewing NYX Super Cliquey Matte Lipstick “In The Red.” This is a super pretty red shade that comes in a unique packaging.

My Experience with NYX Super Cliquey Matte Lipstick In The Red:
The packaging of this lipstick is pretty unique but sort of unnecessary too. Oindrila has explained the packaging very well in her review of the shade “Chain Reaction” , and I totally agree with her. The packaging, though cute, doesn’t do anything. You cannot retract the product and you cannot figure out how much is left. Plus, the quantity provided is too little. The only respite is that this is a color-coded packaging and super lightweight too. I feel NYX has tried to mimic the ‘By Terry Rouge Expert Click Stick‘ for the packaging as well as finish seem quite similar.
“In The Red” has been described as a “true red” by NYX and I agree. I am not a hardcore red lipstick lover. I own many red lipsticks, but use just a few of them as most of the red shades give me a “mature” look somehow. Anyway, In The Red is a very pretty and bright red shade and it looks awesome on my skin tone. It gives a fresh and radiant look. I think it will look good on most skin tones. This is a perfect true red shade that I can wear during the day as well as night time.
This lipstick is pretty pigmented and the color can be built up with a couple of swipes. It can hide lip pigmentation completely with just two swipes. I am happy with its pigmentation. It adds just the right amount of pigment with each swipe on the lips.
The texture is very soft and lightweight texture. It does not feel heavy on the lips unless you start layering it excessively. Since the formula is pretty soft, the lipstick just glides on the lips – without any tugging. As I mentioned earlier, too much layering makes the lipstick look patchy on the lips and some product crumbles off too.
The lipstick sets to a soft matte finish – it’s almost powder matte. It tends to transfer in the initial 10 minutes and then it sets in place and doesn’t move much. This bright shade takes more time to set than the other shade I own and I have to be careful during the initial 10-15 minutes of application.
The formula isn’t very moisturising. I always apply a lip balm before my lipsticks. This one stays pretty comfortable and non-cakey initially, but reapplication and touch-ups throughout the day definitely dry out the lips. If I apply this lipstick at noon and keep re-touching after meals or drinks, my lips tend to become dry and feel parched by evening.
This lipstick lasts over 7 hours if I don’t eat or drink anything, but that’s never the case. I eat or at least drink something every couple of hours, so this lipstick does not last more than 4-5 hours on me, and it tends to disappear if I have something oily, so the staying power varies.
This is not the best matte lipstick range but a good one to try. Everyone can try at least one shade from this range. Keep in mind, the packaging is not very practical and the product isn’t a boon for super dry lips.

- Bullet’s shape facilitates application.
- ‘In The Red’ is a gorgeous, happy red shade.
- Pigmented.
- Feels soft and lightweight on the lips.
- Nice matte finish.
- Decent staying power.
Cons of NYX Super Cliquey Matte Lipstick In The Red:
- Bullet loses its shape with time.
- Product that gets dispensed cannot go back into the packaging.
- No way to make out the amount left in the packaging.
- Starts drying out lips after 6-7 hours.
- Too much layering makes it patchy and crumbly.
- Cannot survive oily food.

Would I Recommend/Repurchase NYX Super Cliquey Matte Lipstick In The Red?
This is not a bad range to try and offers many pretty shades. There is no harm in trying a couple of shades but I won’t purchase more.
