Purchasing a foundation online is a gamble and the risk is double when you take a foundation using IMBB points (from IMBB sponsored scheme) which hadn’t been even launched yet 😀 – I selected NYX total control drop foundation in December last year, a month before it was launched but the hype about the product was wide on and it was touted to be a game changer in foundations. I selected shade Beige (11). Read on for more details:

My Experience with NYX Total Control Drop Foundation:

This foundation comes in a black card box with fewer details about the product. This foundation comes in a glass bottle with dropper. NYX Total Control Drop foundation contains only 13 ml of product – expensive for a drugstore foundation. The card box directs to shake well before use and the foundation is so watery in consistency that when I opened it, I accidentally spilled a lot of product on my outfit! The foundation has a thin consistency but spreads easily, allowing time for proper blending. It blends well and doesn’t end up in streaks or patches.

It dries to a semi-matte finish – no luminosity but not dead matte face either which is the ideal finish for oily-combination skin, in summers especially. There is no fragrance in the product.

NYX Total Control Drop Foundation details

There has been a lot of debate on which tool to use for applying this foundation. NYX says 2 drops for sheer coverage, 3 for medium and 4 drops to get a full coverage, but in reality, 4 drops give you a sheer coverage and you need a lot more product to get full coverage from the foundation. But the texture, coverage and finish are all so satisfying to me that I don’t mind building it up to full coverage – it doesn’t look cakey and feels extremely lightweight on the skin. Also, the best tool as per my experience is Real Techniques Expert Face Brush or Sigma F80 Flat Top Kabuki /Sigma 3DHD Kabuki Brush. You get a natural finish with lest product that way – a Beauty Blender or any other sponge soaks up a lot of product when it comes to NYX Total Control Drop foundation. NYX also launched a specialised foundation brush with a well along with the foundation, priced at $14 but I didn’t purchase it.

NYX Total Control Drop foundation doesn’t accentuate pores or cause breakouts, but it does settle into laugh lines after 4-5 hours. The shade range is worth praising; NYX has incorporated every undertone in the shade range. You can easily find a match because there are 3-4 shades of different intensity for pink, yellow, neutral, golden, olive and deep undertones. Also, there is complete pictorial guideline on the official website to lead you through shade selection. The pigmentation is superb and even sheer coverage with 4-5 drops hides my blemishes and sun spots, giving them an even and flawless look.

NYX Total Control Drop Foundation

NYX Total Control Drop foundation wears for 5 -6 hours maximum when use without a primer and there isn’t any excess oily secretion issue in my t-zone, which makes the product suitable for normal, oily and combination skin types. The shade Beige (11) is a perfect match for my NC 25-30 skin tone.

Would I Repurchase/Recommend NYX Total Control Drop Foundation?
Yes, I don’t know why but I am loving the product for everyday use. I definitely recommend it because my entire review was based on considering the product as a foundation but you can use it as “custom drops” as well to alter the shade of a darker or lighter foundation.
