Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Cosmetic Colour Pencil – Anime Review

OCC is a brand I associate with bright colours, deep pigments and colors that really pop. Their Lip Tars took the market over by storm, they were long wearing, beautiful colours that lasted very well. This was a launch in their Spring 2014 collection. I loved their Lip Tars very much and I own the one in Black Dahlia. I loved the product but I found it very hard to apply and get a precise line, and re-application was a nightmare. Although it lasted well, even a missing small unpredictable patch is a pain to cover up, especially if you are out somewhere.

When the tars launched, I was very intrigued by the shade ‘Anime’. I loved it and wanted to try, but after my experience with Black Dahlia, I wasn’t compelled to buy it. I went for a traditional lipstick instead, but I always had an eye on this one. So when OCC launched all their cult shades in easy convenient pencil packaging, that was all I needed! I picked up the shade in Anime.

The entire range consists of shades ranging from a white and blue to reds and pinks. All shades except reds and pinks can be used on the eyes and all over the body. I don’t know about the body pencils since I haven’t tried them. This one is just a lip pencil.

My Experience with Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Cosmetic Colour Pencil – Anime:

The product comes in a white wooden pencil that needs to be sharpened. If you are used to creamy liners that retract like Milani, you will find these different. This is on the drier side, however, it does not tug or pull on the lips. You can notice with one swatch how different it feels from creamy liners.

Anime is described as a vibrant neon pink and by golly, it is! When you put it on, your lips are BRIGHT and people will notice. This is definitely not for the faint hearted. You should definitely swatch, try it on, walk around and then decide if you want it. But once you do put it on, it looks fantastic. It would suit fair through medium skintones. Those with deeper skin may want to try it and see if you feel comfortable. Deep skinned women in the US rock such vibrant shades with ease and I personally love that. It looks bold and sexy. Indian women generally feel scared to do so (I myself have backed out several times) but after seeing the confidence of women here, I definitely changed my opinion.

The lip pencil is highly pigmented and lasts all day on my lips. I put it on in the morning over lip balm and layer it with a fuchsia lipstick. The lipstick fades, and even my lip balm. But this bad boy never leaves, through meals, water and conversations. It lasts about 8 hours and then fades leaving behind a pink stain. When worn alone however, it tends to fade in about 6 hours. But even then, it’s a majorly long lasting lip liner. The finish is a beautiful matte one when worn by itself. Of course, there has to be a downside, right? These are quite drying. There’s no hydration and you NEED a lip balm. It will accentuate your fine lines, so do exfoliate. I like layering with EOS or Body Shop hemp lip protector. If I am going to wear this to an event, all I need is one application at home and I am done for the day. Which is ironical because I bought this since I wanted this colour in convenient packaging. 😛

What is unique about OCC is that these pencils are vegan. If you are specific about this, you will never find a nice pencil liner which is vegan at this price. And definitely not one in these shades. This is another shade for which I find it hard to see a drugstore dupe.

    1. Regular lipsticks are usually creamy and fade soon (generalization).
This one is quite dry and lasts long. It’s pretty much a lip liner in that aspect, but I love these. 🙂
If you want me to compare it to something more specific, let me know 🙂
