My take on Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in Grandma and Trollop:
Grandma is described on the OCC website as a ‘clean classic coral’, while Trollop is a ‘pinked coral’.
To my eyes, Grandma is a very wearable peachy coral, and Trollop is a very bright, warm pink. Trollop also looks a bit like salmon pink to me. Both are very summery colors.
I love the Grandma Lip Tar. It’s a funny name for a lip color…but if peachy corals like these are for Grandmas, then do call me a grandma! It’s nice for everyday wear, even if it may seem bright at first. I don’t find it garish or too much for daytime. I think it makes my face look brighter and it’s flattering to my warm skin tone (MAC NC30-35). I think it’s versatile too. I used it on my sister’s lips when she was a bridesmaid for a wedding, and it went well with her neutral eye makeup.
With the Trollop Lip Tar, it wasn’t love at first sight. I wasn’t sure if I could pull off such a light, bright pink shade. But I learned that a sheer application of Trollop on the lips, combined with a good, dewy makeup base (which I achieved using a CC cream), made for a very fresh look. It doesn’t clash with my skin tone and it looks feminine and pretty on the lips.
Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics now has three types of finishes (Matte, Metallic, Stained Gloss) for their Lip Tars, and Grandma and Trollop are under the Matte category. These dry to a matte finish, but for the first 20 minutes or so they look like more of a satin.
The Lip Tars are known for their intense pigmentation. Insane pigmentation, I’d say. A small dot is really just enough to cover the lips with color. It’s so easy to end up using too much, and if that happens, it can bleed all over the place. So it’s best to use the lip brush included or any other lip brush and start with a small amount, then build up for more opacity. Also, lips must definitely be exfoliated before using these, or any dry spots will just look worse.
The Lip Tars have a slightly runny consistency which makes them very, very spreadable. Because of that and their pigmentation, my problem with these is being able to use them all up before they go bad. The .33oz in each tube really does go a long way. I plan on making a tinted lip balm using these. Anyway, the OCC Lip Tars apply smoothly and are lightweight on the lips.
As for wear, these last long on the lips, up to several hours me, but with some fading after eating or drinking. They do leave a stain. They don’t transfer and I personally don’t find that they feather or turn patchy on the lips. They can feel a bit drying after a couple of hours of wear, but I find that it depends on the condition of my lips.
In the photos below I applied a sheer-ish layer of the Lip Tars on my lips:
Pros of Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in Grandma and Trollop:
• Incredibly pigmented.
• Very buildable. Color can be worn sheer or intense.
• Smooth feel, spreadable consistency.
• Lightweight feel.
• Long-wearing.
• No discernible taste.
• Subtle, peppermint scent.
• Hygienic, easy-to-use packaging.
• Wide assortment of shades. Grandma and Trollop are very wearable.
Cons of Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in Grandma and Trollop:
• Can emphasize dry patches or lip lines.
• Applying too much results to the color bleeding.
• Can be drying on the lips.
• Takes longer to apply than lipsticks.
• Not easily available everywhere.
Overall: There are some disadvantages to this product…but I don’t care, I love it! If you want super pigmented, lightweight, long-wearing liquid lip color with fun shade options, Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics’ Lip Tar is the best place to start.

Hey Ida… Want to answer that question…. Actually there is a mental (psychiatric) condition named OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE DISORDER…. Like someone who constantly keeps washing her hands with water will most probably be having this problem
Oh I thought you were referring to the shade names. 🙂 Yeah, OCD. Funny name indeed for a cosmetics line. They’re pretty cool though. *haan ji*

They look lovely. I have always wanted to own the matte lip tars from OCC, but always stopped at the checkout, wondering if they suit the Indian skin. Now that you have reviewed two of them, I am totally sold and can’t wait to place an order. Thank you and lovely review.
Glad I was able to help! I think OCC keeps the palest to darkest skin tones in mind, based on the wide choices in lip tar shades and also, their concealer shades. Thank you, Riti.
looks lovely 🙂
