Oily Skin Care Regime : Ask IMBB

Ask IMBB Gang

Akhila Asks :

I have combination-dry skin, but have loads of pimples, every day I have a new one to deal with and they follow up with blemishes, my current routine is:

I wash my face in the morning with clean and clear, rub ice cube for 4 mins and then apply biotique cucumber water as toner and then follow with neutrogena spf 15 oil-free moisturiser.

In the evening after the 16 hours routine, I use himalaya neem face wash to clean the dirt and grime, rub the pimple/blem with ice cube and then apply any of the face masks recommended and splash some biotique cucumber water. I don’t apply any moisturiser in the night as I am scared of pimples. Please help me

  1. hi akhila
this is manjira,I used to have the same problem as yours,I think your CTM routine is pretty decent. But what I feel is that you need to visit a dermatologist as soon as possible because your infection is persisting. What my docter told me is that no matter how well your skin routine is if the infection has spread pretty badly then no amount of skin clearing will iradicate it.And also stop stressing about it too much(I know its pretty darn difficult 😛 ) coz stress is one of the major factors for acne breakouts.

    1. Hey Manjira,

Thank you for your suggestion, I am going to my home town next week, I will visit my dermo, and check if there is an internal problem….I am just unable to feel good with these pimples on face and want a solution at the earliest. Have a good day ahead. :thanks:

  2. I feel your routine is ok but maybe using face mask everyday when u r already hvaing pimples is not a good idea. It might irritate the skin further. But I am no expert….just feel like that

  3. Hey Monika,

You pointed out the right thing, may be I irritate my skin a bit too much and so it irritates me way too much, I will keep this in mind, coz I really use face masks either from biotique or home made ones almost every day just to make sure I get rid of these pests, which may be the reason again…will try keeping away from these, saves loads of my sleep, effort and time too

    1. Of course, monika is right. Its good to use face packs only once in a week to keep your skin healthy and away from aging.

  4. hi- I am wondering if instead of using any of the face packs from the store, whether home made remedies is the better way to go. while i would stick to the ice cube and cucumber toner, I think perhaps the face packs from Himalaya/Clean and Clear can be avoided. easier said than done i know since i dont have that problem.

was checking the net and came across these –
    1) besan/cream/honey; – apply to dry areas of your face
    2) Mix 1/2 cup cooked instant oatmeal , 1 tsp olive oil, 1 egg white to make a paste. apply, keep for 20 mins, wash
3)Rose Mask is good for both the oily and dry areas of your skin. Soak 5 rose petals in water and then crush them. Add 2 Tbsp rosewater, 1 Tbsp yogurt and 1 Tbsp honey .heat it for a few second to melt it and mix well. Apply it for 20 minutes and wash it off with water.
4)For oily areas of your face Take 1 tbsp of fuller’s earth and mix it with 1 tsp rose water. Apply this pack and leave it on for 10 minutes. Wash it off with water.

    hope this helps

    1. Hey Aruna,

Thanks much for the effort and your inputs. Yup will not use any himalaya face packs from now on, and yah I am asthamatic and have allergy towards some of the foods, unfortunately honey features in this list, so will avoid honey in those home made masks you have listed above.

Thanks again for your time. :waytogo:

  5. hi… I suffer from similar skin problems and had a terrible breakout two weeks before marriage. First and foremost consult a skin specialist to determine and rule out whether its an infection or related to any hormonal changes etc… He would prescribe medicines to immediately stop the break out and also give u a face wash and benzoyl peroxide based gel cream to apply on the affected areas. What you should additionally do is avoid using random products on ur face. Home remedies are the best in such cases. Lacto calamine has been terrific for my skin,, i have been using only this twice daily for the last 5 months now,, helps to clear out the acne and lighten blemishes… Try a pack of besan, haldi, honey and rose water for ur face once a week and avoid scrubbing your face too much. Hope this works for you,,, take care …

    1. Pia,

Thanks for the nice advice. I am visiting my hometown to write CA exams, so yes visiting a derm is on my TO-DO list. Also I did use lacto calamine for 5 years though on and off, dont remember why I stopped it. The besan pack seems to be a quite sought after one, two of you have recommended this one today, will dig out my refrigerator today for these ingredients. Thanks so much for your suggestions. :victory:

      1. Lacto calamine works as an excellent moisturiser.. Try going bak to it,, and most of all.. Relax , be happy and dont worry about ur acne.. Positive mind really helps in treatment of acne..

        1. I agree with Pia abt Lacto Calamina. I switch to it on the slightest signs of acne & it really helps. But I use it only once a day- mornings. I was wondering if it can be used as a night cream too…….What do u think pia?

          1. Pia and Monika,

Yup I have lacto calamine still in my treasure, I will switch back to it, but yes even I want to know if I can use it as a night cream, as I dont have a night cream in my regime and am scared to use any as well. Waiting for your response ?:)

            1. hey

Also tell me which version of lacto cal, coz I believe there is a new version apart from the regular one…… :puchhi:

              1. the classic version of lacto calamine is best for combination to oily skin. the newer version has aloe vera and is mainly for those with dry skin. i have been using lacto calamine as a night cream too. it works beautifully on my skin. discovered the benefits of lacto calamine just couple of days before my wedding. i had a terrible bout of acne and was super depressed looking at my face. burst out crying in the parlor while doing my pre bridal sessions. there the parlor girls n one helpful aunty i’d always be grateful to.. suggested i use this… since then this is my HG moisturiser.

                1. in summr time only lacto calamine can be a bit heavy for the skin.. i usually mix it with dabur rose water and then apply to my face.. massage for couple of minutes.. n ur skin would look super fresh 🙂

                  1. Pia,

I am so happy and will always be thankful to you for your suggestion. I can visualise, how bad it must have been to have a bad skin just before your wedding, I am glad this product helped you a lot….

This prod was prescribed to me by a doctor in 2003, it worked just fine for me, I hated the foundation type texture, but just used to dab it and blend it with water for sometime and step out. No sunscreen nothing, but now, I am more educated abt the skin regime and take good care of my skin…its hard to experience a skin trouble like this and be helpless too.

Thanks for the suggestions, I will surely try this one, as I also know it worked for me few years ago and yeah the visit to a dermo is a must for me, as I have tried all the acne related prods from oriflame, clearasil, clean and clear, himalaya, biotique and Clarins as well….nothing means NOTHING really helped…..

Thanks so much Dear :rose:  :rose:

  6. hey akhila…me to hav similar kind of prob :(( :(( ..so i wud recommd u u shud get urself a good dermatologist ..he/she wud be able to help u out by recommending good facial products accordingly..

    1. Hey Preeti,

This is the thing I am gonna do once I reach my home town Vizag. I will visit a dermo, my skin has become so bad, that I dont want to see my face in the mirror; when all of you discuss about make up prods, I just frantically browse to see if anyone has reviewed a prod good for my kinda skin…..and when I see my pictures from the past, I wonder how did my skin stayed so spotless then and what did I do now, that it turned out to be a battleground. :duel:

Had I asked Rati to put up my question earlier. Thanks again for all the advice. This really means a lot to me :thanks:

      1. aww akhila frst a bigg :hughright: :hughright: :hughright: :hughright: :hughright: n belive me wht y r facing ryt nw mee too facin d same..n sum tyms due to dis my confidence level shakes up also :-/ :-/ me nt having dat much pimples but once my i had flawless skin ,nw due to acne der r marks which sumtyms make me sooo down.. :(( :(( so it happns wid most of use sweety :-* ..but wid proper care u can also ovr cum dis problem.. :))

        1. Preeti, thank you so much for your support, to add to the brood, my job demands 6 days of work for atleast 16 hours a day and a travel of 50 kms everyday, believe I will be okay once I start getting the right dermo advice and routine….your words really help me :thanks:

    1. Hey Noopur,

I always read your articles. Yes its high time I must see a dermo, I have a combination dry skin, and could hardly find any good over the counter remedies for my kinda skin as its rare to have pimples for combi-dry skinned people. Thanks so much for your words.

  7. akhila, what others have said is correct, get urself a good dermatologist, he would even analyse your food etc. I have fought with acne for a major part of my life but then they just suddenly decided to subside after marriage, hormonal changes maybe 😉 😆

    1. Hey Poonam,

Yes. As you said, its good to visit a dermo. I never had pimples during my teens. I am 30, married, even after marriage I never had the problem of pimples. All of a sudden for the past few months, too many of these zits have popped up and they wreck havoc on my confidence levels and health as well. Thanks for your advice. :rose: :rose: :rose:

  8. Prachi,

Yes this surely helps. I was not aware of applying face pack only on the T-Zone, but this sounds like an idea. Never tried milk at all, as I thot it might aggravate the skin’s condition, but will give it a try, and yes to fullers of earth as well. The one thing I have decided will not use any face pack on a daily basis. thanks for your suggestions…. :puchhi:

  9. he u already taking godd care.. but if ur problem still persists means either the products u using is not suiting u or u need to visit a dermat to determine the root cause amd then tackle it… then home remedies can follow…. dont forget dermatologist help is the best help if ur problem has been persistant or severe… good luck :)) :))

    1. Thank you very much Neha, I will surely visit a derm at the earliest. This problem has bothered me for quite some time now and I am silently bearing it. Thanks for your words and guidance. :star:

  10. would second the thing about going to see a derm. but meanwhile , do use lacto often. Also do not skip moisturising in the night. use aloe vera gel , with a drop of tea tree oil.
as for face pack for acne prone skin , multani mitti is god sent. use some neem powder and multani mitti as a face pack. wash off. dab some aloe gel with tea tree oil on your face. using a face pack if it is home made , even on a daily basis wont harm you. but more often than not it is a matter of time. simple things like crushed neem and tulsi leaves added to your face pack or applied as a liquid, allowed to dry and then washed off can work wonders too.

also rub tomato on oily areas , it works well to control oil without drying skin and also minimise your pores

    1. Supriya,

Thanks for the home remedies, I am gonna shop today, will buy lacto calamine, fuller’s of earth, neem powder and sandalwood from the Banjara’s home made facials line. I will start using these from today onwards, hope to see some good change… :waytogo: :waytogo: :waytogo:
