I share a somewhat love-hate relationship with eye creams. Though mostly they succeed in providing the much needed hydration to the eye area, I fail to see visible results in other issues like dark circles, wrinkles or puffiness. So, I picked up the Olay Regenerist Luminous Dark Circle Correcting HydraSwirl with a bit of skepticism. Read on to find out if it delivered all that it promised.
$23.99 for 0.5 oz/ 15 ml. Prices vary from store to store
Product Description :
Luminous Dark Circle Correcting HydraSwirl uses a distinctive dual-swirl formula with a gel to hydrate and a cream to instantly reduce the appearance of dark circles.
Add to your skin care routine to:
• Instantly brighten the eye area by reducing the appearance of dark circles
• Hydrate to nourish under the eye area for a firmer, younger look.
How to use:
Massage a small amount of eye cream under eye, on your eyelid, and around crow’s feet until thoroughly absorbed.
Use twice daily, morning and evening. As with all skincare products, avoid contact with eyes.
If contact occurs, rinse with Water.
My experience with Olay Regenerist Luminous Dark Circle Correcting HydraSwirl :
This product comes in a cute little translucent plastic bottle. It has a pump mechanism which is quite convenient as it releases only desired quantities of the product. The product is filled in a swirl format which looks quite pretty aesthetically. The cap shuts tight and the bottle is definitely travel friendly.
Formula / Performance:
Olay promises two things with this eye cream: one is hydration and the other is instant reduction of dark circles. And I was very curious to know how it performed on these two promises.
The eye cream feels quite light and creamy on your fingers and I was expecting it to get absorbed pretty quickly on my under-eye skin. However, it takes a while to get fully absorbed and when it does, it does not feel very hydrating. Though I was personally fine with this level of moisturization, if you are someone who suffers from really dry under eye area, you will not be pleased with the hydration provided by this eye cream. So, there goes the first claim.
And I thought that the second claim has to be taken with a pinch of salt because an eye-cream cannot instantly reduce dark circles (unless it is a concealer). But I was proved slightly wrong there because this cream does give you the illusion of reduced dark circles. This is due to the presence of titanium dioxide and mica in the ingredients which typically are responsible for giving a whitish shimmery finish to cosmetics. And that is exactly what they do with this eye cream; the eye cream looks too frosty on the skin and leaves an unnatural looking whitish cast if you use too much.
To summarize, I use this eye cream very sparingly to brighten up the under eye area. It does manage to hide those dark circles but then I could have as well used a concealer. It does not seem to function well as an eye cream which is supposed to hydrate and reduce dark circles (not mask them). And it surely does not come cheap at 20+ USD.
Pros of Olay Regenerist Luminous Dark Circle Correcting HydraSwirl:
• Light and creamy texture
• Fragrance free
• Hygienic and convenient pump packaging
• Masks dark circles and brightens up under eye area temporarily
Cons of Olay Regenerist Luminous Dark Circle Correcting HydraSwirl:
• Not very hydrating.
• Does not seem to reduce dark circles; instead masks them.
• Finish might be too frosty / whitish if used in large quantity.
• Expensive for a drugstore brand.
Would I Repurchase/Recommend Olay Regenerist Luminous Dark Circle Correcting HydraSwirl?
No, at that price range, you can surely find better eye creams in the market.
No, I would not repurchase as it does not deliver on its promises.
