Hello all,

Today, I am reviewing a few deep dark shades from Orly nail polishes. The shades that I am reviewing today are Star Spangled, It’s upto Blue and Goth. Read on to find out how these shades fared on me.

Orly Nail Lacquer

$8 for 0.6 fl oz / 18 ml. I have mini-bottles purchased as a part of a set.

Product Description:

As one of the nail care industry’s renowned color houses, Orly has established a dynamic palette composed of subtle sheers, vivid cremes, dazzling shimmers, smooth glitters and hot neons. Each ORLY shade is free of DBP, formaldehyde and toluene, and features the award-winning Gripper Cap.

My Experience with Orly Nail Lacquer in shades Star Spangled, It’s Upto Blue and Goth

Packaging: The Orly lacquers come in circular glass bottles which are pretty handy. It features an award-winning gripper cap. Orly claims that this cap is ergonomically designed so as to give the user a firm hold allowing for smooth and precise application. The cap feels nice in the palm with the gripper, but beyond that I did not find any difference in application due to that.

Brush Applicator: The brush applicator is pretty decent and it picks up fairly good quantity of the polish. The application is easy too.

Drying Power: The nail polish dries pretty fast. Even two coats dry out fast and I surely did not have to wait for the nail polish to dry before I could get back to my work.

Staying power: The staying power is really good and the polish easily stays on my nails for 4-5 days before it starts fading.

Now, for some detailed review of each of the colors:

1. Star Spangled:

Red nail polish

When I saw the polish in the bottle, I was worried that the blood red shade and the obvious glitter are going to make this pretty much loud and garish. I was so wrong! Agree, it is a true red, but the jelly crème finish somehow subdues it by giving it a depth and translucency. The gold glitter is absolutely amazing and I love how it catches and reflects sunshine when you are out in the sun. The hands look brighter and cleaner than they are, but this might not be a shade suitable to all age groups or for formal wear. It is decently pigmented and one coat should do the trick, but I love applying two coats.

2. It’s upto Blue:

Teal nail polish

This is a bright metallic teal blue. Not a shade that I like. Also, the formula only makes it seem worse. It applies streaky and does not settle down to an even finish even after 2 coats. This is one of those shades which evoke strong emotions – either hate or love and unfortunately for me it is a hate 🙁

3. Goth:

Black nail polish

Now, Goth is an entirely different story. It gets major love from me. I like black nail polishes and absolutely adore them when you add glitter. The silver micro glitter in Goth adds a nice dimension and extra oomph to the polish. It is a bit sheer on single coat but quickly turns opaque on two coats.

Pros of Orly Nail Lacquer in shades Star Spangled, It’s Upto Blue and Goth:

• Good staying power (4-5 days).
• Dries very fast.
• Nice variety of colors.
• Good consistency of polish, applies well.

Cons of Orly Lacquer in shades – Star Spangled, It’s upto Blue and Goth:

• Most shades need two coats for an intense color payoff.
• These shades are pretty bright and might not suit all skin tones and ages.
