Outfit of the Day: Colour Blocking with Anarkali Dress

Outfit of the Day: Colour Blocking with Anarkali Dress

Hello All!

You people were more than enthusiastic to see an ethnic outfit! So, here’s presenting! 😀 It makes me really sad to see how my ethnic clothes have a mere life of only 4 to 6 hours. Although, I am not completely a no-repeating-of-clothes person (I can actually wear most of my clothes everyday!), it really takes the life out of me to repeat my suits and sarees. I strictly make it a point never to re-wear my outfits at weddings. Hence, almost all my suits have been worn only once or a maximum, twice! Thereafter, they live only to make my closet look pretty, glitzy and colourful! :-$

Outfit of the Day Colour Blocking with Anarkali Dress

This is something that I have worn only once- to my first cousin’s “sagan,” back in November 2011. I had carried it with me to Jaipur, the past weekend, where I had to attend someone’s wedding. But as fate holds, I couldn’t muster the courage and make myself wear it again! I ended up wearing something else! But I did, do a shoot in this!

I always design my suits myself. I can buy gowns, and lehengas, and sarees from the market, but not suits! I just do not like ready-made suits. Somehow, I feel they look all the same, with only a variation in colours. Plus, the kind of fitting I want; is almost impossible to find in ready-made suits.

Anarkali 3

I had been (back in November 2011) dying to wear a full-blown true anarkali suit and I wanted something in Red. This suit was also my first-ever attempt at colour-blocking. (You will have no idea, how apprehensive I was to try it. Right from buying the fabric to actually wearing it at the party.  I was just so nervous throughout! I thought I was looking like a canvas with so many colours on me! But later, the compliments more than made up for all the anxiety!) Red being the starting point, I chose yellow to go with it and later, a little hint of green followed! I chose green jewellery to balance out the colours.

*If you all start wondering that I own lots of stuff from Jaipur, it’s because I LOVE that city! I am a true Delhiite, but at my heart lays the Pink City! And I might have travelled the world, but that’s one place I have to go back to every 4-6 months! I go totally crazy shopping there!! There are so many beautiful things there, especially their jewellery! It’s impossible to come back empty handed!

Apologies for the lonnngggg write-up. I had been away from you guys for more than a week now, I had just so much to tell!.  By the way, just a little alert! Be ready for some serious bombardment of OOTDs from me! 😉

Hope you like this one! Thank you. Thank you. Thank you so much for all the comments!

Take care!

  1. Atika.. I totally loved it. Like Parita said, its simple and elegant. You designed this suit..? This calls for a wwowowow..! I tried my hands at designing my own suit once but it took lot of effort and the final result wasnt that pleasing.. so I gave up. Where did u get this duppatta from?

    1. Thank you so much! <3
Actually this is also some net fabric used for suits and lehengas, which I used as a dupatta. 🙂

    1. Hey! Thank you! Mmm.. That would be a little difficult to do. The fabric is from various different places. All fabric houses though. 🙂

  2. Its such a pretty suit! Please tell me where your Mum’s boutique is in Delhi? I am looking for a good place to get my suits stitched!

  3. U look gorgeous atika.. The outfit has been designed and accesorized to perfection! Love the simplicity n elegance of the attire.. U r carrying it off beautifully.. Good job missy.. 😀 😀 😀

  6. This is one ethnic OOTD which manages to be gorgeous and not OTT at all. I, too, make all my suits out of muga/pat silk. What fabric is the suit made of?

  7. lovely…..great colour, awesome pairing with dupatta and the jewelery! And you carry it so well

Oh just worn once!?! how about wearing it with a different dupatta, different jewellery for another function? I’m not too great with mix matching and designing stuff, so forgive me if this wasn’t too smart a suggestion…

    1. Aww. Not at all Varsha! That’s actually a great idea! I will definitely keep it in mind, and work something out there. Thank you so much! <3 😀 :*

  8. WOW! wat an amazing design! u carry it so well! this is such a beauty pls wear it more than once, dont keep it hangin alone n dark in th closet! 😀 m sure if u wear this again ppl wont b thinkin “repeat!” but they’ll b thinkin “WOW” 🙂 luv ur accessories too! n u made me wanna go to Jaipur ASAP

  11. wow! loved the anarkali..the dupatta is so pretty.
i loved how u have kept the anarkali so simple..
n the colour looks more orange than red to me..
can i copy this some time..hihi..?

  12. hey atika you look so classy 🙂 from where did you get the material?? can you pls giv me the address of the fabric house??

    1. Thanks a lot. The fabric is from different stores. It’d be a little difficult to recall the right ones..I keep visiting too many..to remb each one! I’d suggest you check out the fabric houses in Nehru Place. They have a never-ending variety. You’d definitely find something that suits your taste in one of them. 🙂

  13. You look amazing Atika!! 🙂
That Anarkali looks gorgeous, loved the dupatta!! I have been to Jaipur, it was a college trip so we didn’t get that much time to shop around! :/
