Outfit of the Day: Desi Backpack

Hello everyone!

How are you doing?

Desi Backpack

Many of you have been asking me about my hair care routine. ย I have been delaying it for so long because there is nothing much to share – it is very boring to be frank! I shall nevertheless, compensate for the long wait, by answering every little question I have beenย asked till date! ๐Ÿ˜€ Here you go!

Desi Backpack

I know, the last thing you all would want me to begin by saying is that my good hair is all thanks to my Mommy Dear, but it is true! I have been gifted a naturally nice quality of hair. And when you have that, there are only so many products you need to keep them in place.

I donโ€™t use any fancy high-end products on a regular basis. Iโ€™ve used Clinic Plus Shampoo and Conditioner almost all my life. Honestly, I have gotten bored of it to tears! I do occasionally keep switching between products from L’Occitane, The Body Shop and Forest Essentials, but because these extravagant products do not create any unusual magic for me, I would rather not spend so much money on them, and stick to the basic one which gets me nearly the same job done!

I have a VERY oily scalp, so I need to wash my hair every alternate day. I donโ€™t even remember the last time I oiled my hair. Because if I did, my mother could fry pakoras on my head! (And of course the Delhi heat would be happy to lend a hand! :P).

I bought the Kerastase Elixir Ultime Oil to use as a leave-in conditioner. I barely use it once in 6 months when Iโ€™m going for some special party where I need my hair to stay in absolute place! It too, doesnโ€™t do anything special for me except for adding a little glossiness. Because my hair gets oily the next day, I cannot use it after every wash. Whenever I do, I use as little as a tiny drop (tinier than the size of a pepper) only on the ends of my hair-length. Therefore it would take me not less than 6 years to finish the entire bottle!

I stay away from all sorts of artificial styling. I press/perm/curl my hair once in a decade! ๐Ÿ˜› I ALWAYS let my hair air-dry. I wrap them up in a towel for 5-10 minutes after every wash (shampoo + conditioner), and it takes them about 30 minutes to dry-up completely.

So, the only hair care tips I would give based on my experience are:

1. Keep your hair away from excessive styling. Too much sugar gives diabetes! Get the point? ๐Ÿ˜›

2. Let your hair air-dry rather than blow-dry. ANYTHING natural is always better than EVERYTHING artificial.

3. Donโ€™t eat wrong food- oily, fried, junk. As big a smile as a mayo-filled-burger may put on your face, it makes your hair sad.

4. If you cannot follow a good diet, try to take a health supplement or a multi-vitamin on a daily basis. All you girls waiting to grow their hair long- take note- it works like magic!

5. Drink water, lots of it. ย It does make a difference.

6. Try to cover your hair with a cotton scarf in dust and sun. It saves them from avoidable damage. Tried, tested, true!

7. If you have long hair like me, keep them tied in the sun. Itโ€™ll stop excessive sweating and thereby, unnecessary breakage.

8. If you do, tie your hair loosely. I know how much the slick pony looks oh-so-sexy, but still!

9. Comb them gently. ย I have seen girls fight with their hair like enemies when they become messy. Itโ€™s a big NO.

10. Do not get them wet in the rain. Do Not!! I know we all like our Raveena Tandon moments, but DO NOT!

11. Get them trimmed every 3-4 months. Well, I should be the last person saying this! ๐Ÿ˜› Anyhow! If youโ€™re too busy, put it on your To-Do!

12. And lastly, as I always say- Stay happy, it does show on your hair!

Coming to the outfit now! You know how some of the best pieces of your wardrobe remain unattended for the longest time, and when you rediscover them, you shower them with unmatched love?! Thatโ€™s what happened with this skirt and bag. I bought this skirt last summer. This bag, I ordered it way back in February! I pulled them both out, and paired them with this khaki blouse. Because the color palette of look was earthy, I finished out with n*de shoes.

You know what? My school girl-friends took a few strands of my hair as their farewell gifts to keep under their pillows! ๐Ÿ˜› Well Iโ€™m just sharing! Iโ€™m not going to entertain any such requests here! ๐Ÿ˜›

Have a great weekend!

  1. ahh. reading your post was so so so much fun. please keep on writing like this and that too often.
and yeah that hair strand wala thing was hilarious

    1. Thanks a lot Shikha. ๐Ÿ˜€
I’ve not written in a very long time now. I used to do it in all my earlier OOTDs, and I’m keen to get back to the habit. Let’s see how it turns out. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. rofl rofl rofl lovely post and *thankyou* for paying heed to my request…i do many nbot-do-to’s specially the rain, the air dry, slick pony and slackness in trimming….

    1. Thank you! ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m glad I finally wrote this one! And I hope you’re happy too! ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Nice post Atika ๐Ÿ™‚ All points nicely put in simple word ๐Ÿ™‚ your and my hair care routine is familiar ๐Ÿ˜› I also runaway from anything artificial.. *haan ji* Once i got my hair curled for a function and i was horrified seeing the vapors coming out of my hair ๐Ÿ˜› after that i never went parlour for any styling ๐Ÿ˜›
rofl on your friend’s taking your hair strands rofl rofl

  4. You look great Atika. Lucky you! In my world, even if I spend all time on my hair and apply every nuska under the sun…I’d be happy if my hair turns out half as good as yours.

    1. Thanks a lot Tanvi ๐Ÿ˜€
Awh! Don’t worry. Just a few precautions here and there, and I’m sure you’d have the best hair around. *puchhi* You should try going for regular Hair Spas (like, once every month). I have seen that make a tremendous change in many people’s hair problems.

  5. I agree with all your points because I do the same. I learned to trim my own hair, and I do that every two months. I stay away from styling and I always air dry my hair ๐Ÿ™‚ However, drinking lots of water is something I’m lagging behind in since always. -_-

    1. Oh yeah! Maybe I should try doing that too!! ๐Ÿ˜› Because all I get done is a U-shaped trimming.
Maybe that will help me stay regular!!
Well then, you should start with it today itself! Put a all-day reminder on your phone for every 1 hour. I started with that, and within no time, it became a habit. ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Wow such a Lovely outfit atika di …And ur Haircare Routine , so simple yet so effective , btw u knw finally the f21 website is launched *woot* *woot* *woot* *woot* *happy dance* *happy dance* *happy dance* *happy dance*

  8. I too had a long hair. Thanks to Chennai’s unbearable heat, I started cutting my hair. After looking at your hair now, I want to grow it again *pigtail*

  9. I’ve always admired your OOTDs but after this one I’ve become a fan of your writing skills as well. ๐Ÿ˜€ *puchhi*

    1. Oh thank you!! Thanks a lot *happy dance* I shall try to write more often! ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚
No no!! Thank YOU for reading! *puchhi*

      1. Aww you’re too sweet Atika โ™ฅ
And you know what although I’m a person who believes in soaking my hair in oil before a wash but I’ve noticed that people who never oil their hair have the longest tresses. Even my mum never oils her hair yet she has pretty long hair like you ๐Ÿ˜€ maybe not oiling hair could be a discovery for hair growth secret ๐Ÿ˜› *happydance*

        1. More than the reason that I have an oily scalp, I steer away from oiling because my hair break so much while applying it!! *cry*
And honestly, I haven’t seen oiling make any difference to anyone’s hair ever! Hence, it was not included my “tips list”! ๐Ÿ˜› ๐Ÿ˜›

        2. You know, more than the reason that I have an oily scalp, I steer away from oiling because my hair break so much while applying it! I’m not sure if this happens with others too, but isliye oiling is a big *nonono* for me!!
