My Experience with Pantene Total Damage Care Intensive Hair Mask:

The hair mask comes in a tub with a screw cap which can be flipped open as well. It is not travel friendly as I feel the flip cap can open and damage the other contents. The mask is creamy and light and spreads easily on the hair. It is of the same consistency as that of the conditioner, only slightly thicker. It smells typically of Pantene products.

It mentions on the pack to use this mask after conditioning, but if you do so, it will weigh down the hair and nobody wants that. It is recommended to use this 2-3 times a week and I sort of followed that in the start. I applied it on my hair avoiding the scalp and concentrating on the ends and left it for about 5-7 minutes and then rinsed it off with water. It is quite easy to remove this mask and it does not require loads of water. There is no significant change in the texture of my hair even after 3 weeks. Basically, it will just condition your hair and prevent it from further damage than cure the damage already done. After using this mask, my hair has more bounce and shine and it behaves well for at least 2 days.

When I went through the ingredients list, I found that the conditioner and the mask have almost all the same ingredients. The mask lacks only one ingredient that is mentioned on the conditioner and that is Dicetyldimonium Chloride which is nothing but an anti-static hair conditioning agent and a surfactant. In my opinion, the hair mask fared better than the conditioner for my hair but I would use it occasionally as it is chemically loaded.

Pros of Pantene Total Damage Care Intensive Hair Mask:

  • Hair was soft and manageable for at least 2 days.
  • Added bounce and shine to my hair.
  • To an extent, prevents further damage to your hair.
  • Easy to rinse off.
  • Smells decent (typical Pantene smell).
  • Inexpensive.

Cons of Pantene Total Damage Care Intensive Hair Mask:

  • Does not repair the damage accumulated over time (at least not in my case).
  • Loaded with chemicals.
  • Not travel friendly.
  • Unhygienic packaging.

Final Verdict:

If you don’t mind the chemical content, then you can give this product a try. But remember, hair care products work differently for everyone.

  1. On the contrary, it is extremely travel friendly. Mine has travelled extensively between Bombay, Bangalore, Pune and Kerala several times without any mishaps! 🙂
