Paul Mitchell Smoothing Super Skinny Serum Review
IMBB Sponsored Product Review
Before starting today’s review, I would like to say a big thanks and kudos to IMBB team for rewarding the regular writers with “IMBB sponsored products.” This program is really amazing, good motivation for all the writes on IMBB. Coming to today’s product, when I saw the IMBB-sponsored products list, I was just jumping with joy. I had a very busy day at office and after seeing the product list on IMBB, I wanted to finish my work asap and go shopping. Finally, when I got time, I decided to try out a product for my unruly hair. I was thinking of investing in a good serum from some time and after seeing Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum in the product list, I decided to buy that, as this is an award-winning product.

My Experience with Paul Mitchell Smoothing Super Skinny Serum:
After placing the order for this product, I was eagerly waiting for it to get delivered and when I received it, I was so excited that I did not bother waiting until next hair wash. I used it on my dry hair to get a feel of it and the first thing which I noticed was the strong fruity fragrance. The smell is so sweet that I wished it stayed on me forever, but within a few hours, the smell vanished. After application of this serum, my otherwise frizzy, poofy hair looked more manageable and stayed in place, but the effect did not stay till the next day. My hair felt smooth and soft at ends, but frizziness and puffiness was back.
Next, I used it on washed and towel-dried hair. Living up to its claims, it really made my hair dry faster and the time of blow drying was cut to half. For thick hair like mine, reduction in blow-drying time is really an achievement. Usually in the morning, due to lack of time, I end up tying my wet hair which leads to hair breakage and dandruff. So, the reduction in drying time which this serum gave was really very helpful for me. I used two pumps of this serum for my back length thick hair; I started from the ends and then worked on mid length. After blow drying, hair felt smoother than other days (blow drying at home without this serum) and then I got sleek straight look when I flat ironed my hair. While doing that, I applied one pump each on the 4 segments of my hair. With the serum, hair looked more shiny after flat ironing, and the product did not weigh down my hair at all. This serum made my hair touchably smooth and shiny after straightening and I loved my hair that way. It does not do any straightening and a bit of frizziness and puffiness came back in a day. I feel my hair is frizzier than others, so for girls with naturally straight, wavy, normal hair or with relaxed hair, this serum will work like magic.
In the picture attached, you can see my dry hair with no styling or product in it and the right one is with just one pump of this serum. For sure, hair looks more shiny, soft and manageable, but that super skinny effect (no puffiness and frizz) was not achieved.
Pros of Paul Mitchell Smoothing Super Skinny Serum:
- Makes hair dry faster, reduces styling time.
- Hair feels soft and smooth after application.
- Can be used on dry as well as wet hair, works well both ways.
- Adds more shine to hair when used along with a flat iron.
- Controls frizziness to some extent.
- Does not weigh down hair.
- Nice fruity smell.
- Travel-friendly packaging.
- Not tested on animals.
Cons of Paul Mitchell Smoothing Super Skinny Serum:
- Not completely effective in controlling frizziness and poufy thick hair.
- Does not hold straightened hair.
- Contains parabens and silicones, to avoid product build up, using clarifying shampoo is a must.
- Effect does not last long (other than softness).
- Not easily available in India.
Final Verdict on Paul Mitchell Smoothing Super Skinny Serum:
This serum delivers what it claims to a great extent. For normal hair beauties and for girls who regularly style (blow-dry, straighten) hair, I highly recommend this product. For girls with very frizzy, poofy, thick hair like mine, this is a good product, try your hands on it if someone can get it for you from US, as there its way cheaper than what we pay for this in India. One must try this product at least once.
IMBB Rating:
4/5 for thick unruly hair and 4.5/5 for normal hair.
Will I Repurchase Paul Mitchell Smoothing Super Skinny Serum?
I think I will, if I get a chance to pick it up from US, else I am eyeing the Kerastase Elixir Ultime next.
