Peplum Alert!

Peplum: A flared ruffle attached to the waist of a jacket or bodice.

A bevy of designers showcased Peplum in their collections for Spring/Summer 2012. This beautiful silhouette popularized in the 1940’s and 1980’s is back with a bang and can uplift any wardrobe. There is a variety of ways in which you can wear this hot trend! If you have a top with peplum detail you can pair it with denims for a casual look, a mini skirt for a flirty evening look, a maxi skirt for a lazy afternoon look or a pair of sequined shorts for a glam night look. The possibilities are endless! This beautifully structured garment looks good on almost all body – types because it cinches the waist at the right place and the focus stays on the hips. My advice would be to pile up on peplum in your wardrobe because this trend is here to stay!

Badgley Mischka
Mark Badgley and James Mischka showcased the trend in beautiful linen, shantung and brocade. These rich fabrics give the garments a royal look. I would love to see somebody rock this trend with some heavy traditional Indian accessories. I think it would be a match made in heaven!

Cushnie et Ochs
Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs on the other hand showcased this trend with a dark and edgy twist. Their metal plate peplum outfits look like something out of the future. I love the black leather peplum jacket! It can convert anyone into a rockstar!

Givenchy
There is no doubt that Ricardo Tisci makes the most stunning clothes. This spring summer the designer focused on fine tailoring and came up with a collection which looks impeccable in terms of fit and cut. The exotic materials used to create the ensembles make the looks even more intriguing and striking.

Jason Wu
I think the pink peplum skirt and the peplum blouse with feather detail are to die for! How cute are those! Jason Wu woos us again with an interesting and wearable collection. Wouldn’t you want to own each one of these pieces? And what do you think about the bright coral lips? I think they are a winner all the way!

Valentino
A hint of peplum was seen on the Valentino runway as well. The transparent, soft fabric gives the outfit a very soft look which is novel to this trend.

Vera Wang
A fine – looking collection by Vera Wang! She fashioned the peplums in such a way that they were detachable! How incredible is that! The gorgeous parachute – silk used to layer under looks so pretty and fairy – tale like! I think I’m going to cry! Such beauty!

YSL
There was only one peplum look on the YSL runway, but it was strong in terms of colour and styling. A sleeveless peplum top paired with a formal black pant creates a fierce look. Do keep this in mind when dressing up for your next important meeting where you need to make an impression!

Zac Posen
Zac Posen’s take on Peplum is formidable. He gave even more structured to the already – structured silhouette and came up with this winning look in a lust – worthy shade of green. Loving the colour and the outfit!
