My Experience with Peter Thomas Roth Glycolic Acid 10% Hydrating Gel:

Packaging:  This product comes in a heavy plastic bottle with a pump dispenser. The bottle is slightly see-through, so you can see the amount left. The pump makes it hygienic and also minimizes exposure to air.

Texture/Consistency/Feel on skin:  This product has a gel-like consistency which is not too thick, but then it’s not runny either. This product comes in 2 variations – a hydrating gel version for normal-oily skin and moisturizing cream version for normal-dry skin. Despite being of dry skin, I picked up the gel version because the other version was not in stock and also since it is summer time, I prefer something light, non-greasy on my skin and this oil-free version seemed appropriate.

You only need about ½-1 pump to spread all over the face and parts of the neck. I have been using this for 5-6 weeks and have almost gone through 1/5th of the bottle.

This gel takes a while to get completely absorbed into the skin. It is recommended on the bottle to wait at least 10 minutes for it to get absorbed fully before topping it with another product, but I usually don’t wait for more than a minute.

When I initially started using this product, I used to feel a slight tingle upon application, but within a few days, my skin got used to it and I don’t feel it anymore. This product did dry out my skin during the initial few days of application when I was using it on its own, but since then, I have started to top this product with a light layer of moisturizer or a few drops of facial oil and I have not faced that issue since.

Effects:

This product does everything it claims and so much more. With regular use of this product along with the SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic Antioxidant Serum, my skin has never looked better. I suffered from major acne breakouts this time last year which left scars, hyperpigmentation and redness on my skin. My skin was healing but the process was so slow that the scars were still clearly visible after a year. Within a month or so of using this product, acne scarring and redness cleared out by 85-90%.

Glycolic acid is a form of AHA which is a chemical exfoliant. This product has a time-released formula which gently and slowly exfoliates the skin over a stretch of time. I apply this every night and by morning, my skin looks plump and smooth. This product has helped even out my skin and smooth out the texture. My skin no longer feels bumpy, instead it feels silky smooth and the appearance of blackheads and whiteheads has diminished remarkably.

Though I cannot support the claim of it reducing wrinkles as I am still in my mid 20s. When it comes to anti ageing, I always believe prevention is better than cure. I do have some smile lines which do seem less prominent due to my skin getting much more supple with regular use of this product.

After finding much success with this product. I even recommended this to my husband who has a very oily skin with scarring from past cystic acne and large pores which tend to attract blackheads and he has used prescription medication for his skin in the past. He too has been using this for the past couple of weeks and he too notices a difference. The redness and acne marks are starting to fade for him too and he is seeing a reduction in the appearance of blackheads. This product is not as drying on his oily skin as it is for my dry skin.

This product is very gentle and it never irritated my skin. My only concern is that I see alcohol in the list of ingredients, but it is the last item on the list (so the presence is too small to be bothersome I think) and also it contains parabens.  You do need to be careful while stepping out in the sun if you are using this product, always use sun protection.

Overall, I am highly highly impressed with this product. I believe out of my entire new range of skin care, this is the star product. This product does not give you temporary results which go away within 1-2 days, but instead, it goes under the skin and fixes skin issues for long term. I will recommend this and continue using this and repurchase this for me and my husband.
