Peter Thomas Roth Instant Mineral SPF 45 Review

Peter Thomas Roth Instant Mineral SPF 45

Hi beauties,

All of you must be using some or the other type of sunscreen regularly. In Indian weather, sunscreen is not optional, it’s a basic necessity. It is advisable to use a sunscreen having a SPF of 30 or higher whenever we step out of the house. It is advised to use a good sunscreen even under our makeup. Many sunscreens are available in the market to suit different skin types. But what is common amongst all these sunscreens??? The fact that they are all sunscreens (that is, they protect against the harmful radiations of the Sun)…..And the fact that none of them protect us for longer than 2-3 hours. What do we do then??? The sunscreen brands advise us to reapply sunscreen every 2 hours. But do we do so? I can say for myself that I almost never do so. For one, I cannot apply sunscreen on top of my daily makeup.

Also, it is extremely cumbersome to remove makeup every 2 hours, reapply sunscreen and then again reapply makeup. So then, what is the use of sun protecting creams if we cannot have the protection for the entire time we are outdoors?

I was really pondering about this without realising that my dream product does exist. I happened to stumble upon this one day while surfing the net and I immediately ordered it. I can say that I am extremely delighted with the results, so much so that I have already purchased a few more so that I never run out of it( or at least till I get an alternate/better product).

My take on Peter Thomas Roth Instant Mineral SPF 45 :

The product comes in a simple plastic bottle packaging with a transparent top. The bottom part has a cap, which can be pushed up and down and the brush moves along with it.

I just shake the bottle when I want to apply it, and the powder then comes to the top of the bristles…after which I gently rub the brush against my face (on top of my makeup). The bristles of the brush are rough and scratchy. I feel they could have made it softer. However, I am gentle during application and it does not hurt my skin, so not much issues there.

The part I love is that it does not contain any talc. Hence it looks extremely natural on the face and does not look like you have actually applied powder. It does not leave any white cast on the face nor does it disturb your makeup in any way at all. However, it does have a slight brownish tint to it. So very fair girls with pink undertones might get an ashy look. It would have been a much better product if the powder was translucent, but I personally think that this product would suit the Indian skin tones better (since most of us have yellow undertones-anybody nc25 and above will not face a problem). More brands are now coming up with such products, hence I think that soon we might have a translucent variant amongst us.

The sun protection factor 45 is actually good. It gives both UVA and UVB protection. I apply this product every one hour and it does protect my skin from tanning. I apply it directly over my makeup and my face never looks cakey. I have been using this product since 3 months on regular basis, still the bottle is not empty.

It will not replace your primary sunscreen (main sunscreen), but it is a nice product to help you get the sun protection the entire day.

Pros of Peter Thomas Roth Instant Mineral SPF 45:

• Will help maintain sun protection for a long time
• Spf 45 offers good protection( Does protect against tanning).
• Very travel friendly
• Can be applied over your routine makeup
• Does not have talc…looks very natural on skin
• No whitish cast, no greasiness, heaviness or cakiness is imparted on skin
• One bottle will last a long time.

Cons of Peter Thomas Roth Instant Mineral SPF 45:

• Opaque packaging…Can’t tell amount left
• Brush is rough
• Powder is not translucent…very fair people will have a problem
• Price is high….quantity is less
• Will not replace your primary sunscreen
• One cannot judge how much sun protection we are actually getting
• Non availability in India

I think the idea behind the product is brilliant, but the execution was not that good. Maybe in the coming years, we will have more brands coming out with translucent, high SPF, talc free loose powders. But till then I am extremely satisfied with this product and the sun protection it gives me.

My rating: 4/5
