Philip B Anti-Flake Relief Shampoo Review

By P. Preetha

I have a very volatile scalp; I will have no scalp problems for months and then out of nowhere, I will suddenly get dandruff and won’t be able to get rid of it no matter what I try.  This has made me believe that dandruff is always lurking in the background, waiting to act up. It’s not overly flaky and it doesn’t really affect my hair or skin in anyway, but just knowing that it’s there is enough to stress me out. Recently, my dandruff was acting up again and since I have tried so many concoctions, right from homemade remedies to dermatologist-recommended products, and since none of them have been satisfactory, I did a lot of research on the internet and came upon the Philip B Anti-Flake Relief Shampoo.  It had some really good reviews, but I was still skeptical.  Better be skeptical than be overly optimistic and then get disappointed, right? But seeing how I didn’t have too many other options that I had yet to try, I took the plunge and bought the shampoo.  It costs a bomb at 2800 bucks for a 220 ml bottle!

My Experience with Philip B Anti-Flake Relief Shampoo:

So, I went by the directions given for use and applied the shampoo to my wet scalp and left it on for three minutes before washing it off. I noticed that it didn’t lather much, so I ended up using a lot of it to work up a good lather and that’s when I realised that the shampoo just doesn’t foam up like other shampoos, no matter how much I use.  Oh well, as long as it cleans my hair and doesn’t leave it greasy, I am not very particular about the lather. I also realised that after a couple of washes, instead of using it for all of my hair, it made sense to use it on my scalp and then use a regular shampoo for the rest of my hair (I have almost-waist-length hair and using the Philip B Anti-Flake Relief Shampoo for all my hair does not work out to be very economical).

The shampoo drastically reduced flaking and made my scalp feel clean. After using it for three times, I realized that my dandruff was completely gone! But, be warned, this shampoo only keeps the dandruff at bay as long as you’re using it. And you MUST wash your hair every alternative day to ensure maximum results. I tried not washing my hair for three days and by the third day, I could feel the flakes starting to invade my scalp again.

It has a creamy off-white colour and the texture is a little runny, which makes it easier to spread on your scalp. The smell isn’t great, it smells kind of medicinal, but I have found that paired with a nice-smelling conditioner, you can camouflage the shampoo’s not-so-pleasant smell.

Pros of Philip B Anti-Flake Relief Shampoo:

  • As long as you use it regularly, you will be completely dandruff-free. Not a lot of dandruff shampoos give such 100% result.
  • Makes hair smooth and less frizzy. Unlike other dandruff shampoos which tend to be damaging to the hair, this one leaves your hair feeling soft.
  • Spreads easily. Thanks to its runny consistency, spreading the shampoo on your scalp evenly is quite easy.

Cons of Philip B Anti-Flake Relief Shampoo:

  • Of course the very first con is the price. It is way too expensive!
  • Doesn’t smell great. One of the active ingredients in the shampoo is coal tar and that is the smell you get.
  • It doesn’t cure dandruff.  The shampoo helps you be dandruff-free only if you use it regularly.  So, this is not a one-time solution to your scalp problems.

Would I Repurchase Philip B Anti-Flake Relief Shampoo?

Personally, I would not buy it again. But if you have severe dandruff and are desperate for help, you can turn to the Philip B Anti-Flake Relief Shampoo.
