Hey Guys!

Cosmetics often promise to make us look prettier, but rarely does one come along that promises to make your mood better. Is a blush the answer to melting away stress and chasing away winter blues? Physician’s Formula thinks so! Today, I’ll be reviewing a product that makes some pretty big claims. Does a swipe of this blush provide a much needed boost to not only my cheeks, but also my heart? Product Background and Description

Physician’s Formula is a popular American drugstore makeup-brand. In 2012, the brand was acquired by Markwins International. The company owns several other cosmetic brands, among them are: The Color Workshop, Black Radiance, The Color Institute, and the wildly popular Wet ‘n’ Wild. Physicians Formula is marketed as being more skin friendly than other drugstore brands. Since the brand’s inception, in 1937, they’ve been devoted to create high-quality and hypoallergenic products.

The blush is described as an “ultra-soft and blendable blushing powder [which]features a fresh and vibrant mix of blushing tones infused with a pop of color to create a healthy glow.” Pretty standard claims for a blush, right? Additionally its “multi-reflective pearls provide a soft iridescence to highlight, contour, and add radiance to cheeks.” Still pretty normal. But here’s the show stopping claim that the blush is “infused with our Happy Boost Blend, featuring Happy Skin and Euphoryl, natural plant extracts which have been shown to promote a feeling of happiness by mimicking the effect of Endorphins and helping protect the skin from environmental stress.” O.K. And if those chemicals don’t kick in, you can count on the “the sweet scent of Violet to provide a feeling of joy each time you apply.”

My Experience Happy Booster Glow & Mood Boosting Blush in Warm

It’s impossible to walk by the Physician’s Formula display and not stop and stare at their products. Their trademark is their bulky packaging for everything from their blushes to their mascaras. Now take that and add embossed hearts to the picture; it’s a product no makeup junkie can pass up. I bought the blush for two reasons. The first, of course, is the cuteness factor. The second was to see if it really, truly does mimic the effect of endorphins and boosts my mood. Now, endorphins, put very simply, are stress busting and pain alleviating chemicals your body produces when you, among other things, exercise. All the mood lifting benefits of exercise without actually lifting a finger? There was no way I was going home without this blush.

I own the blush in two shades, Rose, a really pretty pink, and Warm, a pinkish-coral. The powder is very finely milled and buttery smooth to the touch. The blush isn’t the same shade all over; some hearts are a deeper shade than others. The finger swatches show the darkest shade, the deep orange, and the lightest shade, a pale shimmer. The pinkish-coral shade you see in the swatch, is the effect of swirling a brush all over the pan before applying. The different colors blend flawlessly, and the end product comes out looking smooth and even. I really like the way the blush is packaged, because it allows you to choose whether you want a soft glow or an all-out coral-pink cheek. The blush is fairly pigmented. Lest we confuse pigmentation with how dark a product color is, I think it’s best to say that the color payoff is great. What you see in the pan is what you get with this blush.

The shade Warm is great for most desi skin tones. It really gives the skin a nice, healthy glow. It’s very flattering on my warm, tan skin (NC40, for reference). I love wearing it in the daytime with simple eye makeup and a pink/nude lipstick. Because the powder is so fine, the shimmer doesn’t look too gaudy; in fact it’s barely noticeable. The product works well with heavier evening makeup too. The coverage is buildable, so if I want more prominent cheek makeup for the evening, it just takes a couple more swipes.

This blush is not long wearing. It last for about 4-5 hours on me, before I have to reapply. As a result, I don’t typically reach for it on days I know I can’t sneak in some touch-ups.The brush is a total and complete waste of plastic and space. It’s rough and irritates the skin. Applying the blush with it results in a streaky application, as you can see in the left swatch. It looks cute, but that’s it. When it comes to functionality, I think I’d fare better applying the product with my fingers.

And finally the moment you’ve been waiting for! My apologies, in advance, for the anti-climactic ending. I wish I could say that applying this blush makes me feel absolutely ecstatic and on top of the world. But that’d be a lie. The “violet” smell is reminiscent of scented erasers I used as a child. And, sure, the memories associated with the fragrance, combined with the cute packaging makes me smile, but it doesn’t make me break into a happy dance. I think the product is pretty good by itself and doesn’t need the mood-boosting gimmick to boost its sales. I must add, though, that because of the beautiful shade and the way it brings a glow out of my skin, using this blush is a pleasure. It makes me feel prettier. And doesn’t that make every girl happy?
