Physicians Formula Healthy Wear SPF 50 Powder Foundation Review

Hi Everyone,

I have quite a few products to review and I’ve been trying them out for quite some time now. So, I decided that it’s finally time for me to review them. Hopefully, I will be reviewing all of them back to back. Now, let’s move on to the review. Today’s review is about a powder foundation by Physicians Formula, a popular drugstore brand in the United States. So, does this powder foundation meet my expectations? Read on to find out 🙂

My Experience With Physician’s Formula Healthy Wear SPF 50 Powder Foundation:

Coming to the packaging, this powder foundation comes in an orange compact case which is packed in a glittery cardboard box. I am sorry for not being able to show you images of the cardboard box. Actually, I had received the powder foundation without the outer packaging.

Coming to the compact case, it is a bright orange-coloured case with a separate compartment for the sponge. It also has a cute pink coloured bow on the top which is useful to pull open the case. There is also a small handle that juts out from the case that helps you to open it. The case comes with an in-built mirror, which makes it easy to apply the foundation while travelling.

Talking about the fragrance, this is a fragrance-free product. The best part about Physicians Formula is that, most of their products are fragrance-free and hypo-allergic. The list of active ingredients is printed at the back of the compact case, along with the product name and the shade name.

I really liked this concept of having separate compartments, because it helps in keeping the sponge clean and avoids contact with the powder. The sponge itself is bright neon pink in colour. This is good because even after washing the sponge applicator, it doesn’t look dull unlike white sponge applicators. Overall, I find the packaging to be cute and girly.

I have been using this powder foundation for more than a month now, and I have mixed feelings about it. I can’t say that I completely hate the product, but I can’t say that I really love it too. The following are the reasons for my saying so.

Physician’s Formula Healthy Wear SPF 50 Powder Foundation Sponge

Firstly, it does not provide full coverage. I am okay with that, but the staying power, is quite bad too, especially in the summers. My face tends to get very oily during the summers and this product has not really helped in controlling the oiliness on my face. I have tried using it as a powder foundation, above my concealer and as a setting powder above my liquid foundation.

During the winters, it really worked well as a powder foundation. It lasted on my face for almost the whole day. Of course, I had to moisturize my face pretty well to avoid dry patches. However, in the summers, it hardly lasts for about 3 to 4 hours. My nose begins to get shiny after that. As a setting powder, too, it stays for almost the same amount of time. At the same time, I have also noticed that the texture of my face has improved since I’ve started using this powder. My skin looks more even toned, now. Of course, that could be attributed to Vicco Turmeric cream, too, which I have recently started using 🙂

As for the sponge applicator, it is functional and can definitely be used for some time, before it wears out. However, the powder needs to be blended well. A fluffy brush or a kabuki will work better in my opinion. Another con is that this powder foundation comes in only four shades, namely, Translucent Light, Translucent Medium, Natural Beige and Creamy Beige. I have the darkest shade in the range – Creamy Beige. This shade is perfect for my wheatish complexion. However, dusky beauties will find it difficult to find their match here.

Would I Recommend/Repurchase Physician’s Formula Healthy Wear SPF 50 Powder Foundation?
No. There is a lot of product left and it will take me quite some time to finish it. After that, I would like to try other mineral based powder foundations with better staying power and better coverage.

    1. Thanks, Chechi. Yes, slightly. But if you blend it well, it looks better. It blends better on the face compared to the hands 🙂
