My Experience with Pixi Glow Mud Mask:

The Pixi Glow Mud Cleanser has quite a cult following. Since I was not looking for a cleanser, but a mask, I thought I would give this one a try.

Pixi Glow Mud Mask packaging

The mask comes in a green plastic squeezable tube with a screw cap. The same comes packaged in a cardboard box. Everything is in the typical Pixi green shade. What I really appreciate about the packaging is that the tube had a seal on top – ensuring that the product is fresh and not tampered with. I think this is a must, especially for skincare products. The tube has a small opening – it allows you a good control when the product is being dispensed out.

The mask is a clay/bentonite mask. Unlike most clay masks which can be a pain to squeeze out of the tube, this was actually fairly easy. It has a soft smooth texture. As I have mentioned earlier, the tube allows you full control on the product being dispensed out.

It is easy to spread onto the skin – just like a cream-based mask. Still, I’m afraid, a little does not go a long way. You do need substantial amount of product if used as a full face mask. The reason I mention this is because it can be used as a spot treatment as well – for acne or pigmentation. Honestly, the 30 ml tube will not last you too long if used as a full face mask. You would get about 5, max 6 uses out of it.

The texture of the product is really smooth and soft – there is no grittiness to it – like most clay masks in the market. Once applied, even when it dries off on the skin – the feel of the mask is still smooth. You do not get cracks or a brittle feel. Also, it’s fairly easy to take off. You rinse it with water – the clay does not cling too much to the skin. It isn’t difficult to get off your skin- like most clay masks.

So, the first time that I took it out, I had to actually put it back in because the box clearly said “use PM,” which I find kind of a bit strange because the product does not really contain any acids which would deter one to use it in the day. However, I still complied to the instructions and bought it out in the evening again. You apply it all over your freshly washed/dried face. Let it dry for the next 15 minutes. You will feel the tightening of the skin unfair the mask.

Post 15 minutes – rinse it off and pat dry your skin. Pixie recommends following it up with Pixi Glow Tonic. I generally go on with Biologique Recherche P50 Lotion. And then follow it up with a rich moisturizer.

Result: The mask application results in clean, clear skin which looks and feels calm and the pores seem shrunk, at least the ones on my cheeks did, if not the ones on my nose. The excess oil on your skin is distinctly removed without stripping the skin or making it feel parched or “tight.” The ingredients play a distinct role in the results here, the dead sea mud, hyaluronic acid, the sea salt – they either add hydration or help in retaining it and they also help maintain the mineral balance of the skin. The aloe vera in the mask helps calm inflamed skin. The actual clay helps in absorbing excess oil from the skin and helping it become more balanced. The mask is best suited for oily to combination skin but will work for anyone who is prone to acne and blemishes.

Are the results of the mask – Miraculous? No, not really. While you do see the skin to be distinctly improved with each usage, it will not make your blemishes disappear overnight. So, do adjust your expectations accordingly.

It can also be used only on the blemishes/acne as an SOS to improve the condition of the skin instead of using it as an all-over mask.

To sum this up for you:

Pros of Pixi Glow Mud Mask:

  • Spreads easily.

  • Did not break me out.
  • Non-comedogenic.
  • Helps improve skin texture and radiance.

Cons of Pixi Glow Mud Mask:

  • Accessibility.

IMBB Rating:
4.5/5
I do feel this is a good mask and works well for my skin. I appreciate how the brand has used basic ingredients which are known to work for certain conditions of the skin and have ample research behind them. There is no marketing spin or a “unique name” or “unique ingredient” being touted to make you look 20 years younger. Net result, the product delivers on its claims and you aren’t left guessing whether you should have paid that amount or not!
