Pomegranate Body Scrub – Do It Yourself

How many of you are happy that winter is starting? I am very happy, I love winters. Though Bangalore has pleasant weather throughout the year, still those 2 months of winter gives me a chance to wear all my favorite jackets, sweaters, and coats. Okay, enough of my winter love, let’s get back to the business. Today, I am back with another DIY for you all, a body scrub this time. I have always been a fan of pomegranate fruit. It’s tiny red seeds taste delicious and look beautiful too. I always use them in my “chaats” for garnishing. Whilst they taste good, they are good for health too. They are rich in vitamin C, potassium and full of antioxidants. They are great for skin also as they contain skin-preserving antioxidants which work to repair damaged skin or act as an anti-aging agent. All this sounds tempting right, so let’s get started and make our pomegranate body scrub.

Ingredients:

Pomegranate seeds – 6-7big spoonfuls.
Almonds – 8 to 10.
Virgin olive oil- 3 big spoonfuls.
Honey – 1 spoonful (optional, used for its moisturizing properties).
Sugar- 1 cup.
Essential oil of your choice (optional, used only to make the scrub scented).

Procedure:

Gather all the ingredients, now put pomegranate seeds, almonds, olive oil, and honey in a blender and blend until the mixture is a little coarse.

Almonds will take little more time than the rest of the things, but the whole process won’t take more then 3-5 minutes.

Now, pour this mixture in the bowl of sugar and mix well.

On its own, the mixture of pomegranate and olive oil smells great, but if you want to add some more long-lasting fragrance, then add 10-15 drops of your favorite essential oil, like rose, lavender, etc.

That’s all, your pomegranate body scrub is ready. You can keep it any air-tight clean container and store it in the refrigerator for a week maximum. The quantities I gave here will give you sufficient scrub for 2 usages.

I used this scrub this week and loved it. It exfoliates my skin well and as it is an oil-based scrub, it moisturizes my skin at the same time. Addition of essential oil made the scrub smell good. This smell lingers on me for a long time and my bathroom smells like roses (I used rose oil) after shower also. Because this scrub has olive oil and honey in it, it moisturized my skin pretty well. I did not feel the need of using body lotion after shower and my skin was soft and smelled nice the whole day. Though I cannot claim the same for everyone as I have normal skin, but maybe girls with very dry skin will feel the need of using lotion after using this scrub. So, use the lotion if you wish too.

PS: Don’t use this scrub on wet skin, it is oil based, so it will work best on dry skin. Just apply it all over your body, scrub in a circular motion, pay attention to drier areas and then wash it with warm water. Do not apply soap after this to retain the moisture of olive oil and honey. Believe me, your skin won’t feel sticky and it won’t stain your cloths.
