Areeba Asks:

Writing for the first time to you and hoping you’ll definitely help me out.

Read your article on skin types and how to choose foundation. It says powder foundation suits the people with combination skin the best. I dont use makeup at all and really dont know anything about it. But now I have to use it as I’m getting married soon. I have combination skin. Please suggest me a good powder foundation (not too expensive) and how to use it. And can I use it in winters too as my skin becomes dry in winters.

  1. well..i would suggest the MAC Mineralize SkinFinish compact though it is expensive. another option that i feel is worth trying is the Faces Compact. but just incase you dont mind experimenting a bit, do try tinted moisturizers like the Maybelline BB cream and set it with a regular compact. i have combination skin too.

  2. I too have combination skin and currently using bourjois matte mousse foundation..its super light consistency like a mousse and sets as powdered..its good..do give it a try..apart from this revlon touch and glow is also pretty decent compact…check out MAC for powder foundation

  3. MAC studio fix powder + foundation…awesome for combi-oily skin….budget buys should be maybelline dream matte powder, and revlon photoready powder…

  4. I too have oily-combo skin and had a wedding to attend in december. I bought a colorbar powder foundation because I thought I could well use it throughout the year(instead of liquid foundations which I use only on rare occasions) but then I realised that my powder foundation was harder to set and even harder to last and just made my skin very dry. Therefore Areeba, I would suggest you use just a regular good quality liquid foundation like Revlon Colorstay which has very good coverage and set it with a good powder. Use a damp makeup wedge instead of fingers/foundation brush and pat your foundation on. I tell you, it will make a huge difference. Other foundations would come off more sheer with this method, but revlon would still give you good coverage.

  5. if you havent used foundations yet, stick to a liquid one, waterbased. Powder foundations are tricky to blend. Try Colorstay or Loreal True match are good for combi skin.. Go to store and and do apply testers.. Then you can buy online with a discount 🙂

  6. Foundations which look good on one person may look chalky or ashy on others. Since you are getting married, your foundation should be photo friendly also. So do apply in stores and take snaps to see how it fares. 🙂 Congrats!

  7. A good foundation is something worth investing. i know wedding means added cost and you will want to save as much as you can but still buying a good foundation is your key to smooth perfect look. if you still want to go for inexpensive ones you can try maybelline or revlon touch and glow. they will cost you less than 400Rs and are from reputed brands. i have never liked lakme. Plus you might not want to use powders if your skin becomes dry.

  8. Hi there, congratulations on ur wedding!! For a bride to be a good quality foundation is a must and sound investment rather than anything else because if you don’t have the right shade of foundation your pictures can go very, very wrong and those are memories you’ll have for a lifetime so please be very careful when you choose a product. I wholeheartedly recommend MAC Studio Fix Powder (Rs. 1700) and/ or Studio Fix Fluid (also Rs. 1700). These will easily last you for 2 to 2.5 years so the cost is actually quite economical. Both are excellent for combination to oily skin and blend like a dream. If you’ve ever been to a MAC outlet you’ll know that the artists there help you to choose the right shade by applying to either sides of the face till you find the shade which matches your skin tone exactly. Hope this helps, take care and all the best 🙂
